In with the new

The new year has arrived, the time when we all feel like we have a clean slate and the ability to make this year exactly as we want it to be.

While I can think of a lot of things I would like to change or improve upon, rather than a laundry list of resolutions, I have decided to just go with one: ask for what I want.

I had heard someone else talking about this concept months ago, and it really started to sink in. I realized how rarely I actually step up and tell someone exactly what it is I want. I'm not saying that by asking I will always get it, but I have a far better chance than remaining silent and expecting everyone around me to be a mind reader.

So that is my one resolution, which I am hoping will be a powerful one and really help me this year.

Any resolutions for you?

  3. That's a really good resolution. And sometimes we're not even really sure what we want if we don't say it out loud. Here's hoping that you get everything you need in 2014!

  5. That's a wonderful resolution! Man, I'd like to add that to mine, if it's okay. :D I'm always saying yes to other people, but never really to myself. More me time, maybe? Sounds nice.

I love that houndstooth skirt--its beautiful alongside your sweater!

  7. Good for you! I have a hard time with that too actually. I think it is easier said than done. But I am sure it will make a big difference and be a big confidence booster!

  8. That's an AWESOME resolution. I hope you'll talk more about your journey with implementing it, since I think a lot of women, myself included, are socialized into taking care of other people's feelings to the point where we have a hard time taking care of ourselves and prioritizing our own needs.

That said, I also love your outfit! It has a bit of a swingy schoolgirl feel, but in a classy way :)

  9. Here I am analysing your resolution and oh gosh! That's something I need to do too, I'm often left wondering if I should speak out for myself or should I let people kind of guess what I want from them, in deed very powerful! Mine is generally being more responsible and don't procrastinate too much anymore. About the pretty outfit! ... You look beyond adorable, the skirt's silhouette is just lovely and the hat is the cutest accessory!

  10. Happy New Year! The resolution you've made for this year is one of the best you will ever make, I promise - it's a lesson I learned a few years ago now, when I first started working as a people manager and it's completely changed my life in every way. Never mind the professional perks, if I hadn't learn to be direct and worry less about putting everyone else first, I likely never would have made it to Paris. Keep at this resolution - it will change your whole life :) On a fashion-related note, you're definitely starting the year off on the right foot. The red touches in this outfit are just perfect. And those booties... amazing!

  12. That is a great resolution! Since I'm the shy/quiet type I spent a lot of my life not speaking up. But I think I've gotten a lot better with telling people what I want and it feels good! I don't know if I'm making resolutions this year because I never keep them...haha.
Love the tassel on your bag! I'm hunting for similar ones for my wallet!

  17. Happy New Year Lydia! You look so awesome girl. I love that flounce skirt and that red hat is awesome girl. I've always loved how you dress and put things together. Great bag too!!! Good for you! Always ask for what you want. That way you won't have any regrets. Even if it's a no, you'll have an answer and can move on. So I think it's very good that you're starting the New Year off with that. Thanks for stopping by my blog. It meant so much. ((hug))

  25. That's an awesome resolution Lydia and probably something I should adopt myself. As much as I love making lists of goals and resolutions, having just one really simplifies things.
