In trenched

This post is brought to you by my iPhone - I would really, really love to have my power back on now. After last years outages with Irene, and the millions of dollars spent by CT Light and Power I did not think I'd be suffering for days without power again.

But I'm here and I have outfit photos, so I'm blogging. Hope all of you stayed safe through the storm and are better off than I!

Leaves fall

Everywhere you look the bright leaves are falling quickly to the ground. Almost all traces of green are gone - it's hard to believe how quickly this month has gone by, and how quickly winter will arrive. It's also pretty funny how I think 63° is 'warm' out and therefore am wearing sandals.

New girl in town

This weekend I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with a couple of my favorite bloggers - Meg of course is a pretty familiar face around here, but this time I also got to meet Annie! When I found out that she recently moved literally two towns away from me I was anxious to plan a meetup.

I'm really hoping I didn't completely terrify Annie with my total lack of driving and directional skills. (50 minutes to get somewhere I've been many times before, that should take 15 minutes, while using a GPS.) But when we did eventually get to our destination, we had fun taking goofy outfit photos, then going shopping, (I bought a chevron urn at Target and leopard luggage at Marshalls) then having dinner at Plan B Burger (which was delish), then shopping more! (Because we do it so darn well.) No one left empty handed, and it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and evening.

I hope next time we meet up we can get all the CT bloggers together!

Fall maxi perfection

I might be completely in love with the maxi skirt this fall. They are easy, elegant, and I can avoid wearing tights. I adore this outfit, it is bound to be remixed and repeated many, many times.

Perhaps there is hope for me yet this fall, and I'm making room for more maxies in my closet: Wine and Alabaster, $30 at Old Navy, added to cart.

Autumnal pastels

One thing I've noticed this fall is that pastels are still quite prevalent in the look books, especially in J.Crew's. While it almost seems traitorous to the spring to be donning its designated color pallet as the leaves fall, I must admit, mixed in with rusts and browns, pale pink seems right at home in October.

$100 Shopbop Gift Card Giveaway!

Every Fall it's the same old story, no matter how many coats I have in my closet, or how much I loved them last year, I am suddenly desperate for something new. The hunt begins. This year I'm craving a camel leather moto jacket, a classic black pea coat, and I don't know, something with a furry hood.  You know, because this winter promises to be a cold one.

I have been pouring over the coats at Shopbop; do I like the 10 Crosby by Derek Lam coats, the T by Alexander Wang coats? Perhaps the La Fee Verte coats? Oh yes, now that is a perfect camel motojacket.

Whatever it is you suddenly need this fall, you are bound to find it at Shopbop, and $100 will get you a little bit closer to buying it.

Don't forget to Fan Shopbop on facebook!

Autumn sandals

Any day above 65° is sandal weather as far as I'm concerned. I will fight against this Fall thing tooth and nail. The weather has been more or less accommodating to my plight.

It isn't even so much that I dislike boots and closed toe shoes, it's the more the fact that I don't own any comfortable pairs. I must have over a dozen options, with varying degrees of wearability, but none to rival the comfort of the simple leather sandal.

And speaking of shoes, the three pairs I recently bought are all going back on reasons of too long, too narrow, and too stiff - would potentially cause ankle chafing. I'm really disappointed. I was hoping at least one would have worked out! I need to stop online shoe shopping, it rarely ends with me having new shoes.

Elements

Have you embraced online magazines? While they may never be quite the same as their paper counterparts, I do love the convenience - you can view them on your iPad and can take as many issues as you'd like; you can take a screen shot and add it immediately to your inspiration folder or Pin it to Pinterest (despite my best intentions I almost never get around to scanning my paper mags). You never have to worry about an over flowing magazine rack either.

When they are completely free, like the Swarovski Elements magazine, you have nothing to lose.
Swarovski Elements just launched a new iPad app, which will download new issues the instant they come out. Of course if you don't have iPad, you can still enjoy the magazine on their website.

Grey and Plum-13.jpg

In the current issue I was drawn to the "Rock Chic" and "Think Big, Bold and Beautiful" segments, so I put together this look, incorporating the spikes and crystals with the mixture of jewel tones and pastels.
