Snowfall

I can not remember the last time I took photos out in the snow... probably two years ago when we had that relentlessly snowy winter. Normally I avoid inclement weather photo shoots, but I was already out and dressed really cute, so I decided to go for it.

Aside from the fact that electronics hate the cold just as much as I do, I managed to quickly snap enough decent photos before my camera battery died. Of course it's my fault for forgetting I can't leave it in the cold car...

P.S. I did a guest post about color blocking on the 365Hangers blog!
(and did you remember to enter the giveaway? It's ending this weekend!)

For the home

I love to accessorize. It's only natural that tendency would spill over into home decor.

This branch table, I saw in person at Home Goods in December and it was $180. Even though I have no where to put it, I still really want it. If I go back and it's still there, I'm not sure I'll be able to exercise any self restraint at all.

The knobs are something I really need for my desk, the ones on it presently are a particularly spiky floral design which have been quite painful on the occasions when my knee has collided with them.

The photo frames I currently have are also in need of an update. I picked up a couple of frames by this Italian company at T.J.Maxx last month and wouldn't mind having another.

Chevron throw pillows. No explanation necessary.

Branch Accent Table, $395 at Safavieh Home
Cloisonne Chrysanthemum Pull, $10 each at Anthropologie
Striped Picture Frame by Natalini, under $10 at T.J.Maxx
Chevron Throw Pillow Covers, $26 for two at Etsy (or for the fully stuffed kind, $24 each at Target)

Vest with the fur

I know this fur vest has a lot of great layering possibility, so I'm going to make an effort to wear it more. Please don't get bored of it, I'm trying to keep warm here!

Chambray + Silver

Seems like we are in for another cold week, and I've been finding it to be so hard to get dressed.
I don't even want to think about how much time I wasted on Pinterest this weekend trying to find some winter style inspiration that didn't involve absurd amounts of exposed skin. I mean, seriously:
Heels with jeans in 20° weather = freezing.
Dress with coat and bare legs in 20° weather = freezing.
Cropped pants with sandals in 20° weather = still freezing!!
But there is hope. There are some sensible people out there who wear boots and coats and hats and keep warm. And you can also take those freezing pins and alter them to a warmer state like I did with this one.

Spots and Stripes

I am nothing if not determined to get a ton of use out of this coat. Two blog appearances in one week? Why not? This time I decided to go casual with a couple of my favorite pieces, my ancient trouser jeans, and striped sequined top.

I did have a bit of a concern the other day; does a furry leopard coat look like something you would wear on Halloween if you were going as a pimp?

I've studied these photos long and hard and determined that I do indeed look like a chic, savvy, bargain-hunting fashion blogger. And that I do love this coat.

But the other day in the drugstore this woman was looking at me like I was a crazy person in a costume, and I do have first hand knowledge of that particular look, so you can understand my concern.

Winter white

The temperatures might be reaching record lows this week, but I'm trying my hardest to channel some warm summery feelings with a white on white look.

This is the sweater I picked up at Marshalls last week when I went after dinner shopping with Meg and Christine (Meg said the Marshalls was better than the TJMaxx in that area, so we went there instead.)

The manufacturers tag said it was $64 and I got it on clearance for $12, so I think that was a pretty sweet deal.

black lace

There is a holiday focused on a 'romantic evening out' coming up, and if I were to need a dress for such an evening I might turn to MissesDressy to find one. They have little black dresses, designer party dresses, and even more formal dresses to choose from. There are also a number of dresses for under $100, so I'd be bound to find something.

I'm particularly fond of this black lace dress, paired with a simple color pallet, and of course a healthy dose of leopard print.

Yes, if I were so lucky to be going out for Valentines day, this is what I'd like to wear.

Layered

Sometimes I'm so caught up in shopping for new things that I forget about some old things in my closet that are still pretty fabulous, like this satin brushstroke top. It's sleeveless, but with a few extra layers, perfectly wearable.

I know I really need to focus more on shopping my own closet, it is the trendy, budget conscientious thing to do after all.

P.S. Time is running out to enter the Shabby Apple $50 gift card giveaway!

The more I see it, the more I like it.

Another shopping... oversight on my part. I wandered into JCPenney (which is full of surprisingly awesome things) and noticed this leopard fur coat was on sale for $50. I blame you, other bloggers, for wearing your leopard coats and making me buy this.

Anyway, I was anxious for a chance to style up this leather skirt I thrifted for $7, so when a last minute blogger dinner came together, I slipped it on, and it is beautiful. I wasn't sure I could get away with tucking a sweater into it, but it mostly works and at least I was warm!

I really love going out to dinner with other bloggers, while other company might want to part ways after food and coffee, they can always be relied upon to say things like, "What time is TJMaxx open until? Oh, 9:30... so we've still got over an hour, we should go."

And then I bought another sweater. But I had a gift card, so it's totally okay.

JoJos

For Christmas, my friend gifted me these earrings, which are by JoJo Loves You, a Boston based jewelry designer.

The earrings are handmade in Boston from vintage Swarovski crystals and set in sterling silver. They come in every color you can think of, and are only $30.

I truly love being able to support local (well, in New England) designers who make their jewelry here in the United States, rather than outsourcing overseas.

I am so happy with these earrings, and I'm already thinking I should add this emerald pair to my collection, I do need to be trendy for 2013.

I'm thankful my friend introduced me to this designer, and now I hope you will be too!
