Entrenched

My poor shopping habits are numerous, and proving difficult to break. Even though I will happily throw on a pair of jeans that are over a decade old, the moment I see something I want, I resolve to have it, even better if it's a challenge.

Take for instance this faux suede trench. I saw a genuine suede trench at Banana Republic for just shy of $600. Even with their generous holiday offer of 30% off, it still wasn't going to happen. Naturally my next step was to search for dupes and secondhand pieces; lastly I arrived at this inexpensive coat from china, which I won in an eBay auction for $23. It might not have the luxury of real suede, the seams aren't perfect, the flaps on the pockets are decorative, and it isn't lined. Not to mention I don't how much I'll actually get to wear it, since it rains here pretty much every other day and I wouldn't dare to take even faux suede out in inclement weather, however, I was determined to have it, so I got it, and I'm not sure that is a good thing.

I've (mostly) kicked my bad shopping habits but I still misbehave on occasion. At least you aren't buying drugs ;)

  4. That is a beautiufl coat - you mention it has a few issues but you can't tell that from the photos! I think not spending a lot on a piece you're unsure about getting a lot of wear from is a pretty smart investment! :)

I found my shopping habit hard to break as honestly, you always need clothes! So it's easy to justify buying more, haha! Reducing the amount you spend is a good step to start with!

Hope that you are having a great week :) It's feeling like summer here, we are in the middle of a heatwave!

  5. I think it’s a very chic, classic coat! Nobody would know that you won it on eBay for 23 dollars that’s for sure! You may still have your heart set on a better quality option, but because you paid so little for this one I think you’re smart for doing it!

  6. So I scrolled through all the images before I read the content of this post and my initial thought, based on the photos, was that this is a gorgeous jacket that looked super elegant --- having read the text, I still think it's a great looking piece because the various imperfections you mention definitely do not show up visually, at least in these photos. Having snagged it for a great $23, have you thought about just being devil may care with it and wearing it in inclement weather (the rain I mean, because I doubt you'd want to wear it in cold temperatures with no lining)?

  7. What you described is one of the reason I have tried, by and large, to stop buying inexpensive clothes. It's simply to easy to get your very own imperfect version of whatever you may be determined to own, as long as you are willing to hunt and to settle for imperfect. I am invariably disappointed by things that arrive and do not meet my expectations, so I would undoubtedly wear this coat with a feeling resignation, because I really wanted the $600 version and nothing else would satisfy me. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you aren't doing as badly as you think...? Or maybe just that we all have our own shopping-related bad habits.

  8. When I'm tempted by an awesome item, I always find myself justifying shopping. "I'm a good teacher, a good wife, I work hard... so what if I shop a lot?" haha it's horrible. This outfit is so chic and stylish, that purse is so unique!

  13. Well from a far the piece looks great, in fact it looks vintage.
I do experiments like these, will look for the "inspired by" version of the very expensive item i want and try it out. If i wear it a lot i will buy the expensive version. The latter ? It's yet top happen.

  14. Well, you are entrenched beautifully and I would never guess that coat was under 200 bucks. I love it. I am in love with all the accessories here: loafers, hat, bag, ring and necklace. Perfect!

Welcome by Thursdays to join my linkup, babe.

    Happy Holidays! Ada. =)
