Workhorse

This is this sixth time in the last month I've worn this chambray shirt. I wear it to work, I wear it on the weekends, I wear it more than I photograph it, it's a little ridiculous. But it's also kind of wonderful to have a piece that is so easy, comfortable and versatile. It puts so many of the under utilized items of my closet to shame.

More and more the feeling that I need clean out my closet and reign in my shopping is pressing on me. The fact that I would rather wear the same shirt every week rather than try to deal with my mess of a closet is a pretty strong sign a purge is imminent.

I don't know why getting rid of things is so hard. Chances are good that once it's gone I'll never miss it, so why belabor it?

Are you good about cleaning out your closet? Or do you pretend that like the TARDIS, it's bigger on the inside and the more you shove in there, the more it will hold?

  2. You are so right about chambray/denim shirts being workhorses. They go with everything! I usually do a spring and winter purge. Now that I have a good idea of what works for me and my lifestyle I have no problem getting rid of things anymore.

  5. I could not have a closet without my chambray shirt(s). I wear mine all the time. I am HORRIBLE about cleaning out my closet and even worse about actually getting rid of things. I actually do have moments where I look for something that come to find out I donated long ago. So I am always hesitant to get rid of things. I love the chambray with the green pencil skirt! The red heels are a lot of fun too!

  8. It's great to have a closet staple that is really a staple. Maybe you need another chambray shirt!

  9. I'm all about wearing the same thing over and over but mixing it up in different ways - that top is such a staple! I'm somewhat addicted to cleaning out my closet (mostly to justify new purchases) but it feels nice to sell/donate things that I don't wear that hopefully someone else can enjoy!

  11. I wear my chambray shirt all the time too! I am terrible about parting with clothes, even if I haven't worn them in forever. I cleaned out my closet a few months ago though and it felt great!

  14. My chambray top is easily one of the most worn items in my closet. It's crazy to think that I almost didn't purchase it because I was worried I wouldn't get enough use out of it!

  15. I love the versatility of a chambray top. They really do seem to go with everything!

Like you, I've noticed that many of the items in my closet are going unworn and I'm questioning why they're still around if they're not getting the love they deserve. Maybe it's time to set them free?

  17. A good chambray shirt is a wonderful thing - I've worn mine at least twelve times on my blog since I bought it in March 2012 and I wear it even more often in real life. But then again, my wardrobe is relatively small for someone who has a fashion blog; as much as I love having a lot of options, I find I get overwhelmed and frustrated when my closet is too full, so I try to shop smart and/or (as is more often the case) purge regularly. It know it's tought to start but once you're in the habit, being freed from unwanted clothes is the best feeling.

  19. If you knew how many times I have worn my chambray shirt..love it, so easy to wear and pair, nearly with anything. Always when I come back to something again and again I feel like money is well spent. That's how should work my all wardrobe, but sadly it doesn't. At the beginning of september I and my fiance both cleaned our wardrobe. It's truly is hard to be tough and get rid of things which havent been worn for too long and it looks like they wont. But now it makes much more sense to our wardrobe. To be honest we should go through again, because I'm sure we would find again something which would better go to charity than sit in wardrobe. Do it, even if it seems hard at the end you will feel better and will love even more you clothes then now.

  20. I don't think there is anything weird about having an item that you love that much. I think you look pretty awesome in your chambray anyway. And the dainty jewelry is stunning too.

  24. I love my chambray shirts too! They are the first thing I pull out of my closet when I don't feel like getting dressed! And luckily, I'm pretty good about keeping my closet clean. Maybe it's because I really don't have that many items yet...but it does seem to grow everyday! Haha

  32. When I purge my closet, I'll do it in baby steps. I put the pieces I no longer want in a bag and let them sit in a separate spot for a week or two and if I go back for something, it stays. (I never go back for it.) I have the hardest time getting rid of expensive things. So, I try to alter it if it's worth keeping. Otherwise, selling it on eBay helps ease the pain. Doing that French Wardrobe things has really been helping. So far, I've added two pieces of clothing to my wardrobe since September 1st.

  33. This looks great! I'm actually really weird about getting rid of things. I take stuff to Goodwill or seek at Plato's closet probably every couple of months. I think this means I'm not very good at making purchases sometimes, I buy because it's cheap, not because I love it. I'm really try g to change this habit.

  35. What did you do to your hair ? I am loving it !!
I totally understand how difficult purging the closet it which is why I do it every month. I can never be that person that opens the closet and takes a black bag and fills it up in 10 minutes. I have friends who are like that.
I need to try it on, give it a last chance before letting go. Maybe this system will work for you too.
