2019

Happy New Year!
I'm not very good at resolutions. If you asked me what I wrote about on January first last year I don't think I could tell you. This year, if I were to resolve to do anything, it would be to find more confidence in myself and to stop allowing my life to be ruled by fear. While it's one thing to acknowledge the problem, it's another to actually do something about it. Additionally, I need to find a new job, and also shop less (obliviously). What are you looking forward to in 2019?

Spring Blows In

Nevermind that deceptive sun and the fact that it's the first day of spring, a faux fur coat is still wildly appropriate outerwear.

If I'm being honest, I'd prefer to be in hibernation until more of the world reflects spring than the date.

I spotted the first green of my tulips emerging from the earth, a true feat that they return year after year. While I don't consider myself someone with a black thumb, I am still in awe of those tulips. Year after year, they persevere. They push through the snow, they bloom. They don't complain about the cold or the wind or the rain. They just bloom, and bring beauty into my world.

Leopard fur coat

Back in the heat of September when I was hastily packing up my apartment and trying to decide which of my clothes were going into storage, along with all my furniture, I had to significantly pare down my outerwear collection. Admittedly, it dominated the whole of our shared coat closet. (I am always rationalizing that winter is long, and variety is key to beating my winter style doldrums.) I know being without them for one winter isn't the end of the world, but still, I'm missing them.

Of course my leopard fur coat was not going into storage - it's classic and warm, it was one of those pieces where I tried it on in the store, left without it, and drove back a day later when I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I'm not entirely sure what my rational was when I boxed up 90% of my winter accessories, hats, scarfs, gloves, ect. for the storage unit, so when I spotted these rust colored leather gloves on clearance at TJMaxx, I tossed them in my cart. Aside from my current infatuation with the rust orange shade, I thought it would be nice to have gloves in shade other than black. While the leather is soft, it's nowhere near as supple as the leather on my Glove.ly pair, nor are they lined with cashmere, but for $14, I can't complain too much!

Daytime Sequins

It is my greatest desire to live each and every day with unlimited confidence.

Sometimes a sequin shirt on a Saturday for a doughnut run is completely appropriate. Most of the time, I'm the person who fades into the background, not socializing at a party or speaking up for myself, yet when it comes to getting dressed, I have no qualms about going out in a sparkly top in the middle of the day or putting on an even more ostentatious coat with matching shoes. If only that confidence could transfer to the rest of me.

Small things

I find enjoyment in the simplest things in life.

Here in the doldrums of winter, where there is more grey than sun, it's easy to feel defeat. Getting outfit photos ready for each week is a challenge; trying to cram them all in over the weekend, waking early enough to snap them at lightening speed before work (yeah right), or racing against the setting sun at the end of the day.

I feel like I am forever playing catch-up, never quite being able to get ahead, or stay there for more than a moment. But I suppose that is the nature of life, and I need to get out of the mindset that I am behind - perhaps I am exactly where I need to be. If that means some nights I need to go to bed early and don't get a blog post up, that is okay. If I never manage to schedule Instagram posts for the week, that is okay too.

Appreciating the little moments in my day, like my morning coffee, or how good I feel after going to my exercise class knowing that this week I could do something I could not do last week, or stopping to buy myself a grocery store bouquet, just because, gives me joy.

Spot of leopard

Life brings me only good experiences. I am open to new and wonderful changes.

When it's 18° out, I try to build my outfits around my outerwear. I have an abundance of cold weather accessories that probably don't get as much wear as they should, so I dug out these cute furry leopard mittens and fur scarf.

I'll admit to being fixated on having a pair of furry mittens that I featured in one of my gift guides, even though I knew I had these, (which I hardly ever wear) I had to talk myself out of clicking purchase probably a dozen times. I know it's going to be hard to get out of my bad shopping habits, but I'm hopeful that I will be successful with my shopping ban and then I can work on having a closet full of items which get constantly appreciated and worn.
