Winter Greys

Crossing items off my to-do list is incredibly empowering and motivating.

This week, I met my brand new little niece, celebrated Sean's birthday, had a snow day, and completed the painful tear-filled task of filing my tax return. I don't even get a refund and I don't know why, but at least H&R block was offering totally free filing this year.

Every Friday my mind is abuzz with all things I want to do over the weekend, the blog posts I want to write, the to-do lists I want to check off, my nails, I so badly want to paint, and then before I know it, Sunday evening is staring me in the face and nothing is done.

Maybe this weekend will be different, maybe it wont, but I know more than anything right now, I am craving some changes in my life. A manicure might not make a whole lot of difference in the grand scheme of things, but it could be a start.

Summer stroll

In the summer months I walk everywhere, when the sun is shining and the air is warm, it practically feels like a crime to drive somewhere when you could be walking. I just don't happen to be the biggest fan of sneakers and I get chastised when my cute sandals eventually start to hurt and I'm lagging behind.

Fortunately chunky slide sandals are also having their fashion moment, and in a slick sliver leather, these Vionic sandals provide arch support, offer a thick padded footbed, and keep my ankles from aching. Vionic provides podiatrist approved footwear that is orthopedic while keeping with current fashion trends.

One thing I will note about these sandals is that they do run wide, I went down a half a size and was happy that the straps were adjustable so I could tighten them properly.

Flowers in Carmel

After procuring our rental car, a cute little grey Jetta, we started our journey south to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea. The gloom held fast and despite our hopes that as we headed down the coast things would warm up, our stroll along the brick sidewalks of Carmel was a chilly one.

That aside, Carmel is a charming little town. It's downtown area is full of shops and restaurants and no stretch of sidewalk or storefront is without flowers or succulents and I became so enamoured with the succulents that I desperately want to plant them in my own little 'garden' now.

Farmers market blooms

New England weather means going from having air conditioning on one day, and heat the next. Not exaggerating there. I am woefully unprepared for cold weather, mostly in that I have yet to move any of my winter things into the apartment and was stuck shivering in my ballet flats and sandals during the cold spell.

Mentally and emotionally I am unprepared for the cold as well, and with any luck, we will resume proper fall temperatures for the remainder of the month. For at least the remainder of the week, summer outfits will be on the blog.

Monday Mingle

Everything I love about spring

Wearing pastels, lighter layers, sandals, flowering trees, and being able to snip a pile of incredibly fragrant lilacs off the tree in the backyard and throw them in my tote (like a super cool fashion blogger would). That is everything I love about spring.

Newbury Street

The other week I went to Boston for the day. Spent some time strolling through the Boston Garden, shopping on Newbury Street, and then walking up to the North End for an Italian dinner, complete with cannoli from Mike's Pastry for dessert.

Newbury Street is kind of like my dream street; the one where I'd live if I won the Powerball. The old brick buildings filled with cute shops and restaurants with little outdoor patios for dining in the summer... I'd buy a whole building so I could live in part of it and rent out the rest and I'd never have to worry about money again.
