Printed Leather Jacket

While bohemian is rarely a word I would use to describe my style, I can't deny that I love the aestetic, in an I-want-to-live-inside-an-anthropologie kind of way.

When shopping in a brick and mortar store, I almost never buy black; my eyes skip right over it and are drawn to the prints. This leather jacket was one of those pieces, so unique, beckoning to my bohemian spirit, demanding to leave the store with me. I briefly considered how short leather jacket season is in Connecticut, compounded with the bold print, but if I bought only sensible things I would have significantly more room in my closet.

I tried it on, it zipped, and it was mine. Only after the fact whilst texting Megan (I'd spotted a pair of boots which seemed to have her name on them) did she altert me to the fact that the jacket had retailed for over $1,000, making the $52 I'd just paid completely worth it.

It's quite likely I won't be wearing this jacket again until sometime in the spring, so I'll have plenty of time to think of some other ways to style it.

Caught a Light Breeze

The calendar pages of 2020 are blowing away, this year that seemed like it was going to stretch out forever is reaching its end sooner than imaginable. Not much is going to change the moment the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, but for a renewed sense of hope and the promise of a new year bringing better things than the last.

That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Dark Floral

Fall makes promises of being cool and crisp, but some days still manage to be warm and oppressively humid, causing me to change half a dozen times before I can leave the house because every piece of seasonally appropriate clothing I put on feels stifling. You know it's a warm day in October when your Starbucks is completely sold out of pumpkin cream cold brew.

During these bipolar seasons, one day I'm getting cozy in my new velvet bomber jacket and croc booties, the next it's back to light dresses and sandals, no matter how sad a state my pedicure is currently in. Thankfully, maxi dresses provide style solutions on such days; coverage while allowing air flow, easily layered when it invariably gets cold the moment the sun sets.

I'm never one to turn my nose up at a 68° day in October, but the 90% humidity can go.

One Thing

I'm in slight disbelieve that October has arrived, and in my typical fashion, feeling overwhelmed by all the things I haven't yet done this year, I want to shrink into a tiny ball and do nothing while the guilt from unanswered emails and abandoned to-do lists gnaws away my insides. Time expands and contracts in whichever way isn't convenient - I wake up at 7:30 a.m. and have my coffee, thinking I'll get my blog post up soon. Then it's noon, my coffee is long cold, I'm still in pajamas, and the cursor on my screen blinks to an empty page. I'm not entirely sure where that time went, but clearly I'm not going to take responsibility when I can blame the internet.

I just wanted to get one thing done today, even if it was just writing this post, yet once again, I feel that I'm at a loss for words, a trend which began at the start of the pandemic and has stretched out over all these months. Maybe just leave it at the photos then.

After the Bloom

Time has been moving quickly this year. Contrary to the believe that it would be passing slowly with so little to differentiate between the days, it turns out the less I need to do, the less I want to do, and large swaths as what could only be described as 'nothing' consume the days before I even realize the daylight hours have dwindled away.

Which is likely why when my sister and I went to visit the rose garden at Elizabeth Park we'd missed the roses. And why it's now taken nearly a month for me to post these photos.

However, the heartbreak I feel every August, as the skies start to darken before 8 p.m., is right on schedule with the deluge of Nordstrom Anniversary sale posts (pandemic be damned) only this year as the summer winds down, the loss of trips not taken, swimsuits not worn, and events not attended feels even more profound.

January Thaw

Over the weekend we experienced some of the warmest January weather the north east has had in quite some time - in many places it was even record breaking. In comparison to the below freezing temps we had the other week, mid-sixties and sunny felt downright blissful. Even the wind felt pleasant with the sunshine at my back, a stark contrast to the bitter and biting winds we've been contending with for months.

Such a weather event needed to be taken advantage of, so my sister and I packed up the car with four sets of outfits and shot until the sun set. Naturally when we finished we had to join everyone else and partake in an ice cream cone from Arethusa.

The cold and snow will be back soon, spring will feel just as distant, but it was nice to have a weekend getaway from winter without even having to hop on a plane.
