Local Charm

It's easy to be dismissive of what Connecticut has to offer, despite being a New England state, it has always seemed to be lacking when compared to the others. We aren't known for our beaches, blocked off from the Atlantic by Long Island, there are no mansions to tour, islands to visit for a long weekend, and despite being given credit for inventing the lobster roll, only a resident of Connecticut would bother to look that up.

Yet, if I'm willing to let go of the idea that I need to book a ferry to Block Island to soak in some New England charm and simply drive twenty minutes down the road, I can have breakfast on a stone patio overlooking a river that flows into the Long Island Sound, enjoy a beautiful garden bursting with color and flooded with monarch butterflies, and appreciate the beauty of New England without swaths of tourists getting in the way.

  10. It looks like such a beautiful spot! :) I like your summer outfit too, the scarf on your bag is a nice touch! :)

I think it's easy to forget how much we have close to us when places further away seem more glamorous and exciting, haha! But there are a lot of nice spots around if we look!

Hope that your week is going well! :)

  18. Well. I have admittedly never been to Connecticut, and have seen little of New England outside of major cities, but I must say - this looks pretty charming from where I'm sitting. As all of your photos do, really. I'm always envious of your vintage American backdrops, but this just might be the best one yet. All of those beautiful flowers and butterflies! I can't think of a more perfect setting to show off denim shorts and a classic white blouse.
