Photos in the Rain

As I drove north on 91 last week I started having some feelings of déjà vu. What was a bright blue sky started to fill with dark clouds. The road ahead became hidden in grey while the sun to my left still kept trying to break through. Some light rain drops fell, then gave way to a downpour as lightning struck in the distance.

Naturally I was on my way to a blogger event at Bhog in Rocky Hill and heading towards Meg to take outfit photos beforehand. I crossed my fingers the sun would win out, as the last five miles of my journey became a crawl down a backed up highway, due to an accident, according to Google, no doubt caused by the rain in its determination to thwart my plans.

As I pulled my car up next to Meg I surveyed the situation. The torrential rain had ceased, though drops still fell, the biggest puddles could be avoided, and we still had 20 minutes before we needed to get to our dinner.

Because Meg and I have been shooting together for years, we have a pretty good understanding of what each of us wants, and while I always enjoy having the luxury of time for a shoot, it's good to know I can hustle through it and still get good photos, as long as I've got the right photographer.

  1. It's great that you were able to make photos work, despite the rain, and especially since your dress is so lovely.

  2. In the past couple of weeks, I've had more photoshoots unexpectedly get rained out than I can count. It really feels like fall is rolling in early this year, and I can't articulate my disappointment about that clearly enough. But I admit that, like you, despite the rain, I've mostly managed to get the shots - although not without anxiety and disappointment preceding them. It does help to have a photographer who knows you well and can capture the images you want quickly when time is of the essence.

PS: I just have to say, I am so impressed by how well your hair held up despite the rain! Mine would have been flat as a pancake in your position.

  3. We're pros! Ha ha. So glad the rain decided to give us a break so we could get our photos done (and not ruin your pretty dress by soaking it!)

  8. What a stunning maxi dress! I love that you were still able to get photos in the break in the rain! I wish I had someone helping me with photos some days as my only option is to dash out into the rain with my tripod and snap a pic sometimes, or hid the camera under cover and get drenched myself, haha! I need to get better at taking indoors pics! It's supposed to rain a bit this week so I might get to test that our in the new house - there's more natural light here at least!

Hope that you had a great weekend :) The weekday wear linkup is live on my blog, I'd love you to join! :)
