Three inches

I'm not a big fan of these jeans with huge cuffs. I have to hem them, which is of course one of my least favorite things to do; but I don't dislike it enough to consider paying someone else to do it. Just another small injustice of being so short (I'm 5' 2").

While I can admit the fashion industry has come a long way in catering to people of all sizes and heights, I still feel neglected. Petite sections exist, but often are designed for women who are all over tiny, and not just short. Also, stores who offer petite sizing commonly do so online only, which is a turn off. It's a rare and desperate occasion when I will add four sizes of the same pair of pants to my cart and hope one of them fits.

There is no sense in wasting energy in something as fruitless as wishing I were three inches taller, but it would be a real accomplishment if I could channel that energy into actually hemming these jeans this weekend.

  1. I'm 5'3" so I am not much taller than you are. I have a hard time with jeans at times too and I never really feel comfortable ordering them online because I like to be able to try them on.

Oh, if only I'd drank more milk as a kid. Maybe then I'd be 5'7" ;)

  2. Totally agree that it can be hard to find pants/jeans as a petite, since they're almost always too long. I have better luck in the kids' section!

  3. I actually sort of like the jeans with the exaggerated roll in them...and also hate to hem! I always struggle with pant lengths as well because I' 5'6" but have shorter legs and a longer torso...if that makes sense. And don't even get me started on finding things to fit my chest!

  4. I know, the industry has come strides, but still has a way to go in many areas. I love your jeans though with the stripes and pretty heels!

  5. I didn't realize you we 5"2', I'm only 5"4' so I can have similar issues. I love the cuff here though, this is one of my favorite trends with jeans right now. :)

  6. Oh the plight of us 5'2"fers. I rarely have a problem when I shop in the teenagers section. But slouchy and wide leg pants are ALWAYS a problem.

  7. As a petite girl - I'm also 5'2" - I've come to embrace cuffed jeans :) I don't know why hemming is something we all dread so much, but I do know that if I can avoid it at all, I will never take anything to the tailor. Glad to know I'm not the only one! I do wish petite fashion were more prevalent - and that the stores that do offer it created more extensive ranges - but what I really wish is that grocery stores would stop building such high shelves. I can live with too long pants. I can't live with having to climb to reach a box of cereal :P On a fashion-related note, I love the look of your red striped top paired with your leopard clutch. Such a pretty match!

  9. I'm 5'3"- you know, sometimes I forget I'm short because people usually think I'm taller so I do too! But I remember very quickly when I need to buy things like jeans and they're all too long on me!

  10. I love a cuffed jean. It looks really classy with a boxy jacket like this.

  11. At least you look really cute! I can't relate to shorter girl problems, but I feel for you :)

  12. I actually like the way the jeans look, but they would look more polished hemmed.
I am probably shorter than you and have the same problem. Nothing fits correctly, always something has to be hemmed. Even shirts ! I have super short dwarf arms.
Anyways, taking it to the tailor is usually the first option but she takes forever to get things done...
I have hemmed myself but i pretty much suck a it .
I have stapled, glued and even taped hems.

  14. I actually like the look of the cuffed jeans! But I totally hate to have to alter my clothes too. At least it is possible to make them shorter by hemming. Jeans are usually too short on me and there's really no good way to add a couple of inches. I used to try things like adding ribbon or extra material at the bottom but that just looks weird...haha!
And I LOVE that leopard clutch! I'm sad I didn't get it when I had the chance!

  15. Ooh, I love those jeans cuffed like that! And yes, being short is annoying, but at least we can wear super tall heels and not be giants ;)

  16. Yeah, it takes me so long to get around to the hemming. It only take a few minutes too.

You wear the cuffs well. You look great. :)

Love the way you have styled them.

  18. Yes! I agree! I am 5'3. The petite sizes fit so much smaller. I should not be an 8 in regular size and a 12 in petite.

  20. you can have three of my inches, and we'll both be somewhere in average height territory. The worst part about being tall is that they NEVER carry the tall sizes in store. At least petites are carried in some places. We all have something wrong ;)

  21. We have the same height!

  24. Girl, story of my life. I'm 4'11". I always have a problem with pants being too big in the knees, but when I go for petite pants they are too small in the waist. It's annoying and buying ankle pants has proven to be a total nightmare. I cuff my pants all the time too. Like how you mixed the stripes and leopard print clutch.

  25. You look so pretty in your pictures. I have the same problem when it comes to close. I really dislike being short when it comes to buying pants/jeans. Luckily Jessica can sew and I can usually (after some begging) get her to hem mine for me.

  26. i have the hardest time finding pants that fit too! i've resorted to rolling up my jeans too. oh how much easier shopping would be if it weren't for just a few more inches, right?!

    cute & little

  27. I totally feel your pain...I'm the same height as you and not super tiny either,so it is easy to feel left out! You look adorable!

  32. I'd never guess you are 5.2 feet tall. You have long legs. I always think of you when Nautical comes to mind. Besides Nautical I love the touches of Beige & Black here, as well as 2 big trends: leopard & color-blocking.
