In flight

Do you ever have those days when you aren't quite sure if an outfit is working until you see the photos?
I was definitely doubting myself, thinking in my half asleep stupor, I'd chosen wrong.

The bird top, berry pencil skirt, and statement necklace were certainly correct. It was the belt and brown sandals I was worried about. Sensibility was telling me I should have picked black... but my heart just wanted brown.

A few weeks ago on What Not To Wear, Stacy and Clinton told the contributor that she should have a wardrobe so well edited that even if she got dressed in the dark, it wouldn't matter what pieces she pulled out, they would all just go with each other.
I wonder if it would ever be possible to have a wardrobe like that, and more over, if I could ever be happy with a wardrobe like that.

  2. I don't think I could ever be happy with a wardrobe that streamlined...although I do see the logic in it. Also, I love the little bird pattern in your top - it's so adorable!

  3. That's definitely not a wardrobe I'd be happy with. My tastes are far too eclectic sometimes!

This is a really pretty outfit on you. The color of the skirt is gorgeous!

  4. The brown accessories were absolutely the right choice. Black would have looked good, but the brown not only looks good, it looks interesting.

  5. That seems awfully dull, no? I think it's fun to find new things to go together :)

  9. It is probably possible to have a wardrobe like that but I doubt it would show much personality and it sure wouldnt be any fun! Love the top. I have a thing for birds;)

  11. I don't think that I could limit my wardrobe that much. I like to have colors to play with!

  12. I just watched that episode the other night, and I think I actually have the dress-in-the-dark wardrobe going. Or I'm getting there. Just about everything matches black, gray and denim, and it's full of cardigans. And I do get dressed in the dark a lot, in the winter at least.

Your bird tee is so fun!

  13. this shirt is so fun! There was one similar that I like at Zara.

  14. I think the outfit turned out perfectly and the bird print top is so pretty. I can't imagine having a closet where everything makes a wonderful pair, something to strive for, right?

    much love.

  15. I think having a wardrobe that matched everything would be too boring. It's nice to have some clasing items sometimes :)

And I do love your outfit. I think the brown brings something different to it.

  17. Yes definitely. I often change somethaing about my outfit after seeing the photo. I love the pink skirt combined with the top and think it all works perfectly together. I think things can look quite different from a distance to up close and the photo makes this easier to see.

  21. wow now there's an idea. actually, I know someone that would work for, he's so cool/a total hipster and his whole wardrobe is so black and tres chic.

You look gorgeous in this outfit, I just adore the skirt xx

  22. This look is great, and I love the brown accents!! Really love that bird printed top, it's pretty amazing. I love Stacey Clinton, but I don't think I'll ever be able to take that bit of her advice... I love playing with my style too much to make my wardrobe that cohesive, why miss out on so much fun!? <3shelby

    LOL @ Stacey and Clinton
Maybe they have wardrobes like that, but I don't think that is a realistic goal for most people.

  29. This belt/shoe combo doesn't bother me! I think you definitely have to keep the belt on, because it looks amazing with the color of the skirt, but you could also rock this with black shoes, probably. I hate feeling like the colors are too similar in one outfit, but I don't think this would have jumped out at me if you hadn't pointed it out!

  31. I really don't like Stacy or Clinton's style myself...or the way they act there's only one proper way to dress ('course, I only watched one episode)...
Your outfit looks great! The skirt is such a pretty color.

  32. I have to tell you, I think Stacy and Clinton give really impractical style advise... Especially if you actually have an interest in what you wear. They definitely know how to make people look put together and they do help people who really need to revamp their wardrobes... But their tips really only seem to apply to people who are aren't interested in how they dress. Hence the getting dressed in the dark tip. Personally I love having a wardrobe that's full of variety, even if it means that some days my outfits don't fit a rigid set of style 'Do's and Don'ts.' The berry pencil skirt was definitely the right choice and your necklace is stunning. Never let any TV style gurus make you doubt yourself :)

  33. well i like the outfit with brown shoes and a brown belt. I always enjoy watching What Not To Wear but I you have to take their advise with a grain of salt. They are giving advise to people who have no interest in fashion, you however are the complete opposite :)

  34. Oh, this WORKS! Well done! And really, Stacy and Clinton? THAT well-edited? I find that doubtful and I'd say my closet is pretty edited (I'd say it's a novella, so maybe not too well-edited?)

  35. love the outfit!! and your hair too <3 i am having a giveaway on my blog, that is perfect for spring&summer! a RAD BIKINI/1piece by a young Mexican designer! check it out, you wont be disappointed ♥ i promise!

  36. i love the color combination, and the shoes!

i think my wardrobe in a sense is like that...i have a lot of color but they're all muted, so it generally works when i mix colors and such.

  37. This totally works! I love the print of that top. And I am loving your blog! Just found it and so glad I did.

  42. It sounds nice to have a wardrobe like that but I think after a little while I would need a change. Yes in your half asleep stupor you pulled together a very beautiful outfit. I like everything about it.

  43. That would be the most boring wardrobe ever! I love crazy prints way too much to ever have something like that.

I think you look great, and I adore your top. I'm still getting a nautical vibe from even this outfit!

  44. The brown really works. It's a lot softer than the black would have been. Trust your instincts!!

  45. I'm pretty certain I'll never have a wardrobe that will allow me to get dressed in the dark!! Anyway, I like the brown belt and sandals--I think it's the more unexpected, therefore more interesting, choice. I've GOT to get me a bold colored pencil skirt! I love yours.

  46. I am obsessed with bird prints and that top is an amazing piece to have in your wardrobe! Love how you paired it with very Spring-y brights! You look great!

  49. I think this outfit is actually one of my favorites I've seen on you! And Stacy and Clinton go a little overboard sometimes. One show I remember Stacy going on about how skeevy she thinks secondhand clothing is because other peole have worn it before. My entire wardrobe is secondhand. Sorry I'm not sorry about it!

  50. Totally missed this one last week :P I love seeing that skirt! You could have gone with black but I would have thought of it as more standard... brown is more interesting!!
