In flight

Do you ever have those days when you aren't quite sure if an outfit is working until you see the photos?
I was definitely doubting myself, thinking in my half asleep stupor, I'd chosen wrong.

The bird top, berry pencil skirt, and statement necklace were certainly correct. It was the belt and brown sandals I was worried about. Sensibility was telling me I should have picked black... but my heart just wanted brown.

A few weeks ago on What Not To Wear, Stacy and Clinton told the contributor that she should have a wardrobe so well edited that even if she got dressed in the dark, it wouldn't matter what pieces she pulled out, they would all just go with each other.
I wonder if it would ever be possible to have a wardrobe like that, and more over, if I could ever be happy with a wardrobe like that.

Second time around

Say hello to my new pink skirt! She used to be a dress, but after making her several summers ago and then never wearing her, I decided it was time to re-purpose her into something I'd actually wear.
Blush
What was the problem with the dress? Well, I just never managed to get it to fit properly in the bust. Which is silly, when you make something, it should fit perfectly - but that is what happens when you just follow a pattern and don't really make adjustments for the thing to actually fit you.
Salmon Halter Dress
The inspiration for the skirt came from this little ModCloth number that I'd wanted very badly last year. I just detached the skirt from the dress, pulled out the zipper, and added a wide black elastic. Easy-peasy.
Blush
I also made this flower belt, it was fashioned after something I'd spotted in J.Crew.

If I were stepping back in time

I got this cute vintage dress over the winter, at a time when it seemed like a day warm enough to wear it would never come.
Even though the weathermen keep predicting rain and gloom, the sun has triumphantly risen and created some pretty amazing days (knock on wood).
I thought a few snaps with the Hipstamatic would be the best way to showcase this cute vintage dress!

Deviation from the norm

Something about my four day old curls, now resembling limp waves (they were so awesome on Friday) inspired me to put on something a little bohemian, something I normally wouldn't wear because of all the reasons it does not flatter my short hourglass figure.

Truthfully, I've never gotten much use out this skirt skirt. When I bought it I liked the color, that it was Free People, and the fact that it was on clearance more than I liked the length.
In the past, I've rolled up the waist band and hidden it under a belt.

I've been trying to clean out my closet and add more things to the blog shop, I'm thinking this skirt might end up there.

reflection in sunnies
I always secretly hope that the photographers reflection gets caught in sunnies in photos, especially old photos. Getting that small glimpse of the person taking the photo makes it so much more intriguing.
So as you can see, today I let my sis take my photos. I really didn't feel like lugging my tripod all the way to the beach - since we walked and it's about 25 minutes away.

Happy Easter!

Bunny and eggs
I hope everyone got to enjoy a really lovely Easter Sunday; I definitely did. It's always nice to spend time with my bother and his fianceé (can't believe their wedding is less than a month away!) And homemade manicotti and cream pie are pretty incredible.
the finished product
As a bonus, the weather, for most of the day was gorgeous, and probably the warmest it's been in weeks.
I am legitimately not even the slightest bit cold with my bare legs and shoulders!
Happy Easter, Happy Spring
This is my new vintage pleated skirt that I thrifted earlier this week. I saw it at the thrift store the weekend before and was immediately drawn to it because these accordion pleated skirts seem to be popping up everywhere these days. I tried it on and I liked it, only it had a lot of 'buts'.
First, a it's touch long; second, it's completely see through; third, the hem had dropped in a few places and was fraying; and finally, tags said Dry Clean Only.

Even thought it was only $3 I told myself to just put it back. You know I couldn't stop thinking about it, and a week later I went back. When it was still there, I had to buy it; since everyone knows that is the thrift store rule. If it is still there in a week, you are obligated to take it home.
Happy Easter, Happy Spring
To deal with the see-through issue, I put a nude colored slip on over my top. For the small fraying bits, I put on a few drops of Fray Check. For the cleaning, well I just didn't. And for the length, I added some heels ;)

Breezing through

I haven't managed to get the desire to dress nautically out of my system yet. Maybe I should make it a challenge to see just how many consecutive days I can do it.
Maybe not.
It was really windy and pretty cold today, but the sun was out, so I shan't complain.

Spot of sun

I'm pretty certain that no matter what the year, every spring and summer, nautically inspired outfits will be trendy. You just can't take a misstep when it comes to deep navy, crisp white and yellow. Or red.
And if you are me, then with some turquoise thrown in for good measure.

April showers

I have a feeling I'm going to exhaust every possible dress and boot/sock combination I possibly can before the end of this wet cold spring. I was wearing a pair of gold and black sparkly socks that were supposed to be above the top of the boots, but I forgotten that I'd pushed them down earlier and didn't pull them back up for the photos.
April showers
Normally my coworkers say little about my outfit choices, but today three people complimented my necklace. I guess it was a good choice.
