Signs of spring

Things are finally starting to look and feel like spring. The sunny days are peppered with rainy ones, but this week has felt like a huge turning point in the weather. No longer are we trending below average!

While I can be a bit a wimp when it comes to taking photos in the rain, it was barely misting, and the center of New Canaan, CT is too pretty to not take photos in, rain or shine.

The glare

When it comes to eyewear, I'm in it for the look.

I realize there are actual benefits to a good pair of sunglasses, like protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays and in the case of these Hobie Polarized lenses, reducing the glare off reflective surfaces such as water and making it easier to see when you are say, perhaps out kayaking.

Now, these are not my kayaks. However I'm hoping I can borrow one, and when that happens I will have sunglasses that will help me see better, and look really cute too.

Traveling light - Crossbody Bag Giveaway!

It's good to travel light in the summer, so whenever possible I try to downsize my bag. A cute little crossbody like this one by Danielle Nicole that Linger Rose kindly send over is just big enough for a small wallet, lipgloss and phone.

The bright, punchy cobalt is sure to go with a lot of my looks, especially considering my penchant for nautically theme ensembles.

Plus, Linger Rose is kindly offering the Chelsea Crossbody in Cognac for one Chic on the Cheap reader! Scroll down to the Rafflecopter widget to enter!

Mint moment

Sometimes I get a little matchy-matchy. Sometimes it becomes clear to me that I become obsessed with a color and then buy everything I possibly can in that shade. Sometimes it gets a little ridiculous.
I still need a mint handbag.

The leather pencil skirt

I thrifted this leather pencil skirt months ago; for the quality, it was an absolute steal. Soft, supple leather, no visible signs of wear, and remarkably comfortable to wear and sit in for hours at work.

Yet, this is only the second time I've worn it, and I'm pretty sure my leather skirt wearing days are dwindling as the humidity level steadily rises. I'll just have to resolve to wear it more this fall, however I'm loving it mixed with the lighter neutrals and brights, it feels perfectly 'spring'.

All about the stripes

I have this theory that in order to do casual wear in a cute way, you must wear stripes. They have a magical power to make boyfriend denim and a grandpa cardigan look youthful and fun.

Yes, heels and a pile of accessories help too, but the stripes are still carrying the look as far as I'm concerned.

In other news, my bronze band from Upper Metal Class got lost while I was grocery shopping the other week, so this is the last post it will ever be seen in.

I'm really not one of those people who loses/misplaces things, and the fact that it was kind of expensive and I barely had it for two weeks makes me particularly peeved. At the very least, I hope someone found it and is giving it a good home.

Birthday time

What time is it? Birthday time. I plan on spending my day shopping, getting a manni-peddi, drinking my free Starbucks latte, going out to dinner with my family, and eating a huge piece of chocolate cake.

Haircut

I'm not really one for haircuts. It's generally all I can do to get it cut twice a year.
This time I decided to go to the Paul Mitchell school and let a student cut my hair.
Even though the process took a lot longer, since the instructor needs to check the students work, answer questions and demonstrate techniques, I actually enjoyed the experience. And I had my hair cut by a guy for the first time ever, so I cajoled him into taking an instagram photo with me. Haha.
Best $6 haircut ever.
