Changing tides

For a long weekend, that went by pretty fast. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that Sean and I were looking for a house, but when I came to the realization that there was no home we could presently afford that seemed worthy of investing in, we deiced to look for an apartment instead.

We were told that rentals go fast, so if we saw one we liked, to make a move. We looked at exactly one apartment. The fact that everything in it is brand new; new kitchen, new bathroom, new floors, fresh paint, was what sold me.

Now I'm faced with the reality that I need to sift through decades worth of things I've accumulated and decide what is worthy of being a part of the new (small) apartment. Downsizing from a walk-in closet that I've already out grown is not going to be fun.

In our attempts to do this move on the cheap, we spent yesterday driving around chasing down furniture on Craig's List (browsing the furniture section is my new favorite way to kill an hour) and I'm hoping to finally give my grandmother's old mahogany furniture a new life with some paint. Everything I see on Pinterest is so amazing... hopefully I won't end up on the 'Nailed-it' board.

Sailing in

I found this sailboat dress on the clearance rack of Banana Republic Factory; they only had one left in a size two. Since I know other stores will ship items directly to the customer, I took the style number and started calling every store within my 100 mile radius. No one had a size four.

Of course I mentioned whined about this on social media, and Jessica kindly offered to call stores in her area. This was terribly nice of her, but I decided to let her do something productive with her afternoon and do my own legwork - the mere idea of changing my radius to somewhere halfway across the country was brilliant enough.

A couple more calls and the dress was on it's way to me from Wisconsin, though I was quite puzzled to find that not only was the sticker price $14 more than it was here, the extra reduction was 30% rather than 40% off. Evidently we get better sales in Connecticut.

After all is said and done, the dress was worth it - I wore it to my sister-in-law's nautically themed baby shower and everyone loved it.

As you wish

The other week I got to spend Saturday evening at the drive-in movie theater with Meg. Neither of us had ever been to a drive-in movie before and when I found out my favorite movie, "The Princess Bride" was going to be showing, I asked Meg if she wanted to go, knowing it is one of her favorites as well.

We had to get there really early to be sure we got a good spot, but there was obviously a lot of time to kill before sundown and the start of the movie, so we took outfit photos and then walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Because we've both seen the movie more times than we can count, it was hard not to start saying all our favorite lines, even if we sometimes got them a little wrong. Fortunately at the drive-in, you don't have to worry about bothering any other movie goers by doing that.

I could probably go on and on about the magic and wonder that is "The Princess Bride", but if you've seen it, then you know, and if you haven't, I don't know what you are waiting for!

The drive-in was a lot of fun, I'm so glad I got to go this summer!

Like Ships

It seems I have resigned myself to wearing tights again, much as I was trying to avoid them (as evidenced by my week of denim).
I know I can't really expect truly warm, beautiful weather for several more weeks, but after the teasers last month I'm simply not ready to go back.

Still dreaming

Of summer and of the outfit I dreamt up that never was;
And somedays while I work I will get the sudden urge to just google 'boat cardigan' or 'scalloped shorts' - it is inexplicable but compulsory.
Today, while we are still a solid four months away from summer, the shorts and cardigan appeared.
The Shearling (yes, that boat is furry) Boat Cardigan is at Forever 21 for $26 and these scalloped shorts for $30 can be found on ebay.
Do I dare?

Back in the present, where it is winter, I'm wearing a summer dress.
