Rarely one to shy away from color, I noticed that my winter wardrobe often tends to skew towards monochromatic.
The addition of of this blush pink coat was a sure way to brighten things up, in addition to the mix of prints, patterns and textures, the resulting look is anything but monochrome.

It's a Jungle Out There
Tuesday, April 28, 2020
Since my sister started her blog we've been somewhat at odds when it comes to taking outfit photos. Since the very beginning of my blog (and in truth, before I started my blog) it was meant to be about documenting outfits I actually wore. I feel like a decade ago most bloggers shared a similar mentality, but over the years it's evolved to become more about inspiration (or perhaps even more so aspiration).
In the efforts to create content above all else, outfits get styled for photographs which never have a reason to be worn for real, and that has never been something I could get behind. So my sister and I argue, and most of the time I end up photographing her inspirational looks and refusing to put together my own - since what I'm really wearing is some combination of joggers and a sweatshirt with zero makeup and my hair pulled back.
But here we are, six weeks into quarantine, with no reason to get dressed aside from going through the motions of normalcy, so here is a look that wasn't so much worn as it was styled, and hopefully someday will provide inspiration, even if for no one other than myself.

That was an unexpected two week break; sometimes I allow the trivialities of life to keep getting in the way. I had a beautiful week of warm weather at the end of September, but both my 'regular' photographers (my mom and sister) were busy moving my sister back from the west coast, so I was left to my own devices and managed to take photos with the tripod exactly once.
When my mom and sister returned it was a week of chaos in the house, and while there is still a suitcase barricading 90% of my door and a pile of boxes that I expect will be camping out until Christmas, things are shifting into their new normal. Obviously this includes sharing my shoe wardrobe on a daily basis (because my sister only has 'California' shoes) and pretty much anything else in my closet with fluid enough sizing that it will work on her taller, slimmer frame.
Of course there are some benefits to having my sister back home, like being able to take outfit photos together, and hopefully we will get into the routine of it soon. She is still working on starting/restarting her blog, but I will be sure and share it once it's live.

...Photos after dark with the flash are not a common occurrence, but Meg and I really wanted to take outfit photos before dinner at Jack's Bar and Steakhouse last week, so we made it work. Normally I avoid harsh direct light like the plague (and the closeups we tried for turned out a bit garish) however overall I'm kind of into the film noir vibe of the dark alley.
While not intentional, I feel like this outfit is a testament to my thriftiness, the new J.Crew blouse I only paid $5 for, my vintage trench and these thrifted jeans cost even less - seriously. I won the shoes in a giveaway, and I love them. They are from Shoes of Prey, and you can customize every shoe they have. It may seem silly, but I made half a dozen slightly different versions of this shoe before settling on the suede d'orsay with a rose gold leather insole trim that you definitely can not make out in these photos.

Connecticut Blogger Brunch
Monday, August 28, 2017
In a few weeks I will hit the nine year mark for this blog. In 2011 I met other Connecticut bloggers for the first time, which is when I met Meg in person! Since then the CT blogger community hasn't been particularly strong, so I was very excited when Nonee created the Connecticut Blogger Collective and put together an amazing brunch to bring 25 local bloggers together!
The brunch was held at Heirloom Market in Weathersfield, a charming location I'd never before visited, but I loved their private event setup and the food was all so delicious! Nonee did an amazing job with the tablescape with floral arrangements from Eddy Farm.
It was so nice to talk with other bloggers about the way blogging has been evolving over the years and how best to make an impact. We talked a lot about Instagram and even spent some time looking at each others feeds and giving constructive criticism.
It makes me so happy to see a Connecticut blogger community growing after all these years and I hope to have many more future opportunities to socialize, collaborate, and learn from these amazing women.
