Stacking Rings for a Statement

If there is one trend that has been around since I started blogging (over a decade ago!) it's layering jewelry to make a statement. Of course the trend has evolved over the years; first it was layering bracelets, then we had statement necklaces and layering statement necklaces, which thankfully became usurped by delicate necklaces (likely because our necks were starting to hurt), and now the trend has moved to layered rings.

I've been steadily working towards growing my collection of stackable rings, so that I have lots of options to mix and match. I started out with some simple solid bands, but quickly added a chevron band because of how beautifully it accentuates a ring with a stone setting. Now I'm seeing twisted and curb chain bands increasing in popularity, and I love the addition of these new textures.

The jewelry lover that I am, I do often fall for the allure of inexpensive costume pieces, however, I'd much rather invest in solid gold, or at least high quality vermeil when I can. For custom pieces, Etsy can not be beat. Being able to order half and even quarter sizes is a game changer! If I'm going to spend money on vermeil, then shopping at AU-Rate is the clear choice, as they have an amazing life time warranty that includes re-plating if a piece fades or gets scratched.

I can't forget adding in a statement ring into the mix as well, because, why not? This art deco inspired fan ring is wonderful as the band is thin and thus it's quite comfortable to wear. I've also got my eye on another vintage inspired ring that I'm sure would be great addition to my collection!

Do you love layering your rings? Do you have a favorite band combination? Let me know in the comments!

Pop of Color

Rarely one to shy away from color, I noticed that my winter wardrobe often tends to skew towards monochromatic.

The addition of of this blush pink coat was a sure way to brighten things up, in addition to the mix of prints, patterns and textures, the resulting look is anything but monochrome.

Spring to Fall

When it comes to seasonal color pallets, there may have been a time when pastels were for the spring and jewel tones only came out once temperatures dipped, but colors are no longer treated with such simplistic biases. Instead the same colors will trend season after season, morphing from cozy knits to sundresses, and offering a closet that feels a bit more seasonless.

Therefore, when I found I'd never posted these photos after I took them in the spring, I decided to just hold on to them until denim started to creep back into regular rotation and share them for fall. I'm pretty sure your only clue these were taken six months ago is my far more pale winter complexion.

The Spring Wardrobe Challenge

Before the pandemic and the stay at home recommendations and my fit of add to cart madness, I was planning on joining Courtney in her spring wardrobe challenge. The rules are simple, no new clothes, wear as much of my existing spring wardrobe as possible, decide what should stay and what is just taking up closet space.

Clearly the no shopping portion of the challenge was pretty significant, and I definitely failed there - however - the important thing to do is just reset and try again, rather than continuing down the path of more shopping. This weekend every time I wanted to make a purchase, I added the piece to a Pinterest board instead. If I'm still obsessing come June 20th (and they are still in stock) then I can buy them.

The second component of the challenge I approached with more gusto, pulling out this Madewell silk wrap top that was purchased December of 2018, and to the best of my recollection, was still yet to be worn; along with this houndstooth print coat, which I've had for over a decade, but hasn't been worn in a few years.

The verdict - I think both pieces can stay. Would you agree?

Now I just need to get out of my lounge wear and put the rest of my spring wardrobe to the test, even if it's for no other reason than to take photos and decide if the pieces should stay or go.

Second Fresh Start

While I didn't start off the year with any grand resolutions, particularity with regards to my shopping habits as I have in past years, as I was starting to compile my January budget post I came to a somewhat upsetting realization about the number of things I managed to buy in just one month. It started off innocently enough, as it always does, those extra 40%-70% off sale price ads start invading my inbox, instagram feed, and just about anywhere else wifi touches. I think there is no harm in placing an order just to try something, and then it snowballs.

I may or may not have gotten three coats today.

I know I need a hard reset, but I don't know how to combat the temptation without removing myself from my internet connected life. I also need to find something to fill the void I keep trying (and failing) to fill with clothes.

Linen Jumpsuit

Once again I'm sharing a piece at quite a delay; I snagged this jumpsuit back in May and initially purchased it in the petite, but felt the torso was too short so I exchanged it for a regular with the intention of hemming it.  Needless to say I found myself mid-August with a thin layer of dust on my sewing machine and decided the length was just fine.

Also making an appearance is the raffia belt from Mango. The only size in stock when I placed my order was large, which I decided was acceptable as I would have the option to wear it lower than my natural waist with jeans, however the issue of the extra length of belt flopping around arose. The cheapest and easiest solution to the problem was a clear hair elastic. They also work great if you've got a long adjustable strap on a bag which refuses to lay flat.

This summer feels like it's just been flying by, and as usual, I'm digging my heels in and choosing to enjoy the rest of it, rather than prematurely starting fall.
