Cherry Blossoms in Wooster Square

The cherry blossoms in Wooster Square Park in New Haven are a great place to see the blooms. It's not D.C. or even Central Park, but the 72 trees which border the park are still a gorgeous sight. This year I avoided the festival itself, because there are just way too many people, and instead stopped by on a Thursday evening. The golden hour light was flooding the park, I didn't have to worry about finding parking (always a little stressful in New Haven), and there were few enough people that for a few frames, it appears I've got the park to myself.

After I took my photos I stayed, I took a stroll around the border, went down one of the more charming historic streets, and lingered in the beauty of the trees as the sun slowly went down. That hadn't initially been my plan for the evening - I was intending on snapping photos quickly then running off the the gym, but I do not regret missing that workout. The gym will always be there, but these blossoms are already gone.

  1. The blossoms really are so fleeting, aren't they? We don't have any cherry blossom trees in Winnipeg but even when we lived in Vancouver, where countless trees bloom every year, I still missed seeing them practically every other year, unless I made a special trip out just like you did to get these photos - they simply don't last. I suppose that is a big part of what makes them special, but it does seem like such a shame that we don't get to enjoy them for just a little bit longer each year. Love seeing you break out those rust-coloured mules again, they really are so lovely and we such a wonderful addition to your shoe collection!

  6. I really miss that corner of New Haven - I had a friend who lived next to the square and spent a lot of time at her place and it was such a lovely place.

  9. You are rocking that hat, girl! And love the pop of color with the shoes. I'm sometimes in that mood, too, where I just want to avoid the crowds. And it makes it easier to take blog photos :)
