Peaks of the Week

I've been in a bit of a blog funk, well, more like a life funk that takes the blog along with it. Every Friday I think I'm going to have a productive weekend, shoot outfits, write posts, and then it slips by in a blur. I've been wanting to write more, but I feel like I just can't find my voice.

To check in on my goals for the year, now that we are already a quarter of the way through, I've applied to two jobs, I didn't hear back from either. I've read four books (still on track for one a month), but the current two I have checked out have already been renewed once and I've barely touched them. One definite success, a Monday night yoga class I've attended for the last three weeks.

❀ April marks the start of cherry blossom season. In D.C. the trees hit their peak blooms yesterday. There is even a pop up cherry blossom themed bar, which I would love to see! Blooms in Connecticut are still about two weeks out, and hopefully I'll get to Wooster Square at the peak, which I missed last year.

❀ Caitlin shared her stay at the Gilded Hotel in Newport, RI, and first of all, now I want to go there, and second, I now have lots of home decor inspiration. Thankfully Target just launched Opal House and now I can get a jewel toned velvet chair and whimsical wallpaper on the cheap.

❀ I will probably never be a light packer, but I suppose it does offer this idea of freedom while traveling. We are in so many ways, tied to our stuff.

❀ I do not need to add anything new to my closet, but these bow slides are just darling.

❀ Modern science has changed a lot about what it means to be alive, this article leaves me feeling very conflicted and sad.

❀ Even though I haven't been dating, I already decided on an over-corrective post-breakup rule of no more guys in the restaurant industry.

❀ You might think after all the egg salad consumed this week (from a dozen easter eggs) I'd be tried of egg salad, but now I want to give this recipe a try.

❀ Crystals for people with low expectations of crystals. Yup, that's me.

❀ If you need a dose of puppy, Diana's poodle just turned one year old!

  1. Oh goodness, there is so much in this post but it was the no more guys in the restaurant industry thing that made me both laugh and shake my head the most. I'm lucky that my husband didn't start out in restaurants but transitionned into them halfway through his career and our relationships. He still finds restaurant culture very bizarre (among other things.) But the truth is, we still do lead very separate lives a lot of the time - this week his shifts have all started at 2 pm or later, which means I'm at work when he wakes up and in bed when he gets home. Most of the people we know who work in restaurants have partners who do the same because it's just simpler that way. Making it work with someone who is and someone who isn't is no easy feat.

  2. This never-ending winter doesn't help break the doldrums either, does it? I have a tendency to feel so guilty when I don't post, but I've been trying to stop that. If I'm not feeling inspired, it'll show in my content and I'd rather have nice posts (even if it's photo heavy because I can't muster up the energy to write) instead of just putting together something to have a post. It's weird when this is a hobby, yet feels like a job sometimes.

I would love to see the cherry blossoms sometime. I'm hoping that London is in full bloom next week so at least I can get a peek of spring when Wisconsin is expected to be in the 30s all week.

And I just finished the article about packing light, which I'm trying to do for our trip. The comment at the end about buying something abroad losing its luster is really true, too. I've been switching my shopping to markets and antique stores where I can find something unique.

  4. That New Yorker article was an incredible read - so much to think about and I definitely feel a bit conflicted after reading it. And I just know you'll power through your funk in time (but being in the thick of it certainly never feels great) - I get the arrival of the cherry blossoms will help a bit.

  6. All I can say in your defence and my own is that the year has gone by too fast. I have not read a book in over a year. I have been into coloring books though.. it's books right ? !
I threw my goals out the window and feel like I am in a limbo.

  7. I relate to you in so many ways! I too have applied to two jobs. Actually, I’ve done two interviews. One I didn’t land (and it broke my heart) and the other was too little pay for such a long commute. I can’t believe it’s akready April! I don’t feel like I’m totally succeeding with my goals, but I’m also not totally failing either. I wish I could go to DC and see the cherry blossoms. One day I hope! I need an east coast trip

  8. It's so frustrating when life doesn't quite go as we plan, I think. So we can all relate....but I love that you are still so positive. At least it sounds that way!!

  9. I hear you, the weekend always goes by so fast and I never get done as much as I want. I've been eating hard boiled eggs every day since Easter... so I'm pretty tired of them. Maybe I should try a recipe to put them in something instead of just eating them plain.

  11. You're doing well with your goals, although I'm sure it's frustrating those jobs didn't work out for you!

I've been trying to make more time for reading this year, I was doing so well at the start of the year, but now not so much, Life is hectic so it's hard to fit it in, but I also know it would feel less hectic if I went to bed early enough to do some reading, haha!

Hope you are having a great weekend, and you get some blogging motivation and time back! Yesterday I went to a BBQ, and today we are having a party! I'm looking forward to it :)

  12. Since we were out of town for Easter we were actually going to dye eggs this weekend with our kids. That egg salad recipe looks so tasty! I will have to try it out with our eggs!
