Tick Tick Tick

I am committed to making positive changes in my life.

Eighteen more days left of my three month shopping ban and I am chomping at the bit. Which is not a good thing, and not how I was hoping to feel this far into the ban. I had this expectation that I'd reach a happy zen feeling and not still be battling off every cute top that catches my eye.

It's the internet's fault, really. If all I had to do was avoid brick and mortar stores, I'd be in such good shape! But online shopping's call is inescapable. It's there, 24/7 and is at its worst when I'm at work with nothing to do. Apparently idle hands like to place Banana Republic orders. (A birthday gift for my sister-in-law and nothing else, I swear.)

Come April first I can't allow myself to do three months of shopping in one day. That would defeat everything. I need to remember to be thoughtful about any new purchases, mindful of my budget, and consider what is already in my closet.

And who knows, maybe in 18 days I'll find that zen and not immediately buy these shoes?

  1. Such great layering - I like the little touches of red! :)

You are doing so well with your shopping ban too! Just 18 days to go, you've got this! You have achieved so much already. I hope it does get easier for you nearer the end. At least you have the experience of spending 3 months playing with and wearing what you already own so your post-ban shopping trip will be just those items you've identified a need for in your wardrobe. :)

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

  2. !. Love this look!
    2. I know what you mean, it has taken me quite a while to start shopping less and buying quality instead of quantity. I gave up shopping for Lent and it's already taking a toll, haha. I really want to buy things but I know that I don't need them. At all. Such a hard thing to deal with when shopping is something you enjoy

  3. It's great that you've stuck it out for this long, I applaud you! It's always nice to take a break and take inventory of what's in your closet.

  7. You are doing so well with your shopping ban! 1 month would be hard enough. I have so much respect for you for going 3 months! Love your pretty plaid mix!

  8. I'm sure this is far from what you want to hear, but three months probably isn't enough for your mindset to really change - three months is hard; by the time you made it to six, you'd be more used to it. (I know, since I once had no choice to go six months without shopping. My habits have never really been the same.) That said, making it three months is an amazing feat and I totally understand idle handles wanting to place Banana Republic orders, the internet is the worst place to spend time when you have nothing to do - so many dangers lurking in the form of cute clothes at sale prices!

  9. Wow, so the anonymous person who commented above me is sort of a jerk...not Cee, you know, the other ass. I can't believe people are still riled about that. Geez.

Anyways, online browsing always kills me and derails my attempts at shopping bans. Always!

  11. I love the scarf+shirt together it looks really good.
I clicked on the shoes you are lusting and although pink mules do look fab, check if you do have a similar light coloured summer shoe ? I am thinking about allowing myself to thrift something when the shopping ban ends and then try and go one more month... what do you say?

  12. I'm already impressed you've made it so far. I always try to do one month shopping bans and fail. Lately I've been trying to ask myslef "will this actually make me happier?" "Can I see myself wearing this frequently enough to justify it?" and "Do I already have something like it?" But even sometimes i still break down with the questions haha. Stay strong!
