Mind Over Matter

I send thoughts of healing and love to my body today.

Last October I got a cold, followed by another in November, and a third in December. I set my mind that I was going to have a healthier year, that I was not going to get sick again. I partly felt that a lot of those colds were brought on by stress as much as viruses, yet I have not managed to get past it. I got sick again last Wednesday, and have had an awful cough all week. So much so that I couldn't get any sleep for several nights. On Monday I was up until 5:30 A.M., watching Gilmore Girls; naturally, because if the banter of Lorelai Gilmore can't lull me to sleep, then what can? Needless to say, I missed a couple days of work, and have tried nearly every cough remedy on the internet, including herbal throat spray, the currently trending turmeric tea (kind of like having an Indian soup?) and a eucalyptus shower. I'm looking forward to the weekend, for some restfulness, and hopefully the end of the last cold I'm going to have for a while.

  1. Oh my goodness, three colds in three months sounds utterly brutal. Sometimes stress is a factor but I've also worked in certains offices where, for a variety of reasons, people seemed to be sick much more often and found myself caught up in the same thing; I worked in one office in 2010 where I missed more time from work than I have missed in all the years since, and all of my co-workers missed even more - it was completely strange. Here's hoping you feel better soon!

  3. Oh how terrible, I had this happen a few years ago, it was one terrible cold after another and it seemed the next one was worst than the last. I made it through with Campbell soup, orange juice and honey... I hope that you feel better soon and most important free yourself from all that causes stress. Remember that if its not important a year from now, then let it go. Hugs.

  7. That's such a bummer, Lydia! To me, coughs are the worst, because they wake us from the much needed sleep we need!
    Get well soon!

  8. I've gotten sick more than usual this winter myself. The crazy sporadic weather doesn't help, I think. Really hot chicken soup is always my go-to. Feel better!

  9. That all sounds so awful - I really, really hope that you start to feel better soon. Being sick is awful and it sounds like this one is really lingering.

  10. I hope you are feeling better for good! I cannot get over the taste of tumeric tea even if it does help with a cold. I'll stick with my more traditional flavors!

  11. So sorry to hear you're so sick. I have heard essential oils are helpful in combatting colds. I haven't tried them but a few of my friends swear by them. Hope you have a restful weekend!

  17. Don't feel bad Lydia! I've been sick as well. The weather keeps changing. I think it's hard for anyone to adjust to the changing temps. All you can do is take care as best as you can. HaHaHa Great outfit! Sharp hat & boots. Love your sweater & jeans.

  21. Oh no, I hope you feel better soon! Colds are the worst--I hate how there's not a whole lot you can do about them and they tend to drag on. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
