The sweep

Getting just the right length on a maxi dress is always a challenge. If you want to wear it with flats, it needs to be long enough that it still feels like a maxi, but short enough that it isn't pooling on top of your feet. You don't want to be catching the hem under your heels or tripping over it on stairs.

I know the saying is 'measure twice, cut once', but I just chopped a solid four inches off this dress and hoped for the best!

  1. I always find getting the hem on maxis tricky - and I can't believe how nice and sunny it still is there!

  2. Beautiful look! I love all of your accessories. I always run into trouble with my maxi dresses showing too much ankle when I wear heels :-/

  11. Getting the right maxi length is a huge challenge and, quite frankly, a big part of the reason I usually avoid this length of dress entirely - I do not have any sewing skills to speak of, so hemming at home isn't an option for me. You did so well cutting this dress down that I have to admit I'm pretty envious - having a maxi you can wear with heels and flats must be fabulous!

  13. That is the perfect length for wearing with flats - you did well! :) I can't hem myself at home (although I've used hemming tape a few times to mixed results....so I'm impressed you can do it! This is a beautiful dress too :)

Hope you're having a great start to the weekend :)

  14. This dress has very nice movement and I think it turned out great! You're so right that maxi length can be tough. I'm not so talented at sewing and usually end up stepping on the hem of mine :(

  18. That is so true. I have tried my luck a few years back to find a perfect maxi yet I didn't found and a quit. I always love to see how other wear maxi. Your dress is lovely and looks gorgeous on you with flats, I think it's very hard to pull off.
