Mostly wags

Today marks two months of moving into my apartment, and the transition has been an emotional one, to say the least. While I'm finally feeling moved in and that the space feels like 'me', I'm not used to having so much time alone.

Sean and I work opposite schedules, so our time together is limited in that respect, and I'm coming from 29 years of never really being alone. Even if no other people were around, Chloe would at least be there following me around looking for a handout or to cuddle on the couch with.

My time alone is rarely productive. Rather, I deal with the aloneness by going shopping. But even shopping can only go so far. I'm trying to relearn how to grocery shop, because I still feel like I'm shopping for a family, whereas now I'm really shopping for myself. I'm disappointed with the amount of things I've already had to throw away because they went bad. It's not fun to toast up an English Muffin for breakfast, take a bite, and then realize it's moldy. I'm getting better and utilizing the freezer, which is where half the chocolate chip cookies I made this weekend went. Baking is my other distraction, as few things conjure up feelings of home better than the smell of cookies in the oven.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer before I adjust to living in my new space and feel at home, even in solitude.

  2. I know the pain of working an opposite schedule from your partner all too well. It never gets more fun, but you do adapt to it. And you will find better ways to use your time, I promise. There's no way I could be working on my second book if it weren't for the fact that Ian is at work five nights a week, and my blog content likely wouldn't get posted so regularly, either. Hang in there - you'll get it all sorted out :) On a fashion related note, can we talk about how cute your sparkly top looks under that jacket? Love!!

  3. Loving this outfit! And yep, living "alone" is a bit of an adjustment isn't it? I've got the grocery shopping part down - except I never cook so its just reheating things. As for being productive - that is my problem. If I have no work I end up just watching tv and mindlessly surfing the web instead of doing productive things.

  5. Adjusting to a new living space is difficult. I like to be alone, but I get weird if I go too long. LOL. I cook for two, but we use the freezer a ton! Bread freezes really well. Love the sparkle in this look.

  6. Those transitions are always tough - but it all settles eventually. Shaun and I are working pretty separate schedules these days so that's been tricky for us; I empathize!

  8. I definitely know how you feel. I'm a long most of the time too. My husband works all day and night so I don't usually see him until the weekend. And I'm really bad at cooking for myself. I'm always throwing away moldy food! I wish I could give you some tips but I still haven't figured it out!
I'm loving your sparkly sweater and the dark leather jacket!

  14. First of all, the color of your coat and booties is gorgeous! Secondly, it really takes a lot to get used to cooking for only 1-2. Funny enough I can barely remember how I would shop and how I would cook when there was only two of us!

  15. I still throw away a lot of food even for a family of 3, I need to get better at my grocery shopping habits. I hope the transition will get easier for you, I think I would be a little lonely too. Love this pretty sequin top on you!

  16. I totally know how you feel. When my hubs was in law school, he was NEVER around, like ever. So it was just me and my dogs all of the time. It took some getting used to. Love this outfit. That top is too cute!

  19. Moving is always an adjustment, and I imagine it would be so hard to have the opposite schedule as your significant other! I love my alone time, but I think I might feel different if that's what I had every day. Hope it gets better! Love this look too--the color of that jacket and those boots is gorgeous!
