Keep it safe

Advances in technology make life easier, and I am always quick to embrace them. I remember my first experience with a card using RFID technology, it was in Boston in 2006 when they switched their public transportation system from tokens to card, and this new card was so amazing, I didn't even have to take it out of my wallet to use it.

The radio frequency chips used in that card which allow data to be transferred by proximity rather than direct contact can be found on nearly every credit card and bank card now, as well as any US passport issued in the last 6 years.

Unfortunately RFID chips allow tech savvy thieves to steal your identity, without ever laying a hand on your wallet.

In response to this new threat, designer Stewart/Stand developed a line of wallets made from woven stainless steel, which prevent the transfer of information. Originally a mens line, Stewart/Stand has recently branched out and started making sleek wallets and clutches for women as well.

Don't be deceived by the presence of metal, this wallet is soft and lightweight. It is also highly touchable. I love running my fingers over the textured stainless steel patten.

Stewart/Stand wallets are also eco-conscious, made with 85% post consumer recycled stainless steel.

An elegant pairing of stainless steel fabric and Italian leather, protection from identity theft never looked better. (And if you don't believe me, just check out the competition.) If leather isn't your thing, there are vegan options made with Italian nylon as well.

Stewart/Stand provided me with this wallet for the purpose of this post, my views and opinions are my own.

  1. What a cool wallet! I actually parked my car and paid using my debit card and someone copied my card information and kept making frivolous charges. It's crazy out there.

Love your dress, so pretty and fun. Have a great weekend!

  2. Oh whoa, that's so neat! It's strange how people can get information from a card just by using some kind of zappy technologic magic... nothing is impossible these days.

I am so in love with that dress, Lyddie! The drop waist and pleats at the bottom are both so so cute. And that necklace is a dream, too! I would steal this outfit from you in an instant. <3

  10. I was wearing a dress in almost this exact colour two days ago! It is one of my favourites during the summer. I think this particular colour reminds one of sunny vacations somewhere with warm sand under the feet and fruity cocktails within reach. I like the fit of your dress, it suits you very well :)

  35. What an interesting concept! Here in Paris we have RFID cards for the metro but the card that contains your personal information is separate, without an RFID chip, so there is no identity theft concern. But when I get back to Vancouver, we are - finally - moving to a card system for transit that will present exactly the issue you've described. I'm glad to know that there is a company out there that's thinking ahead so proactively! And their wallets look lovely, too, which is a huge bonus :)

  36. You wear this drop waist dress so well! And I've heard a lot about people using the RFID technology as a way to scan other people's cards. So a metal wallet would be a great accessory to stop this. Loved how you mixed technology with fashion here.

  38. Really cool wallet! It's crazy how easy it is to get people's information. That's why I'm not really a fan of those smartphones where you can just touch them and transfer videos or whatever.
