Fall Colors in New Haven

Even though the reds and oranges of fall pale in comparison to the bright pinks of spring (I know not everyone feels that way), they are beautiful in their own way, and feel like a last hurrah - going out in a brilliant blaze before the world turns brown.

During the spring my most important mission is to seek out as many flowering trees as possible, track when each will be at their peak, and pray the weather cooperates so I can capture my photos with their splendid beauty in the background. In the fall, I drop the ball. I forget about the changing leaves, and before I realize, the branches are bare and the opportunity has past.

While my initial desire was to take photos along side one of the buildings of Yale, the orange leaves on the Green beckoned me, and added color to this black and white look.

  1. I do love Fall trees! I've been failing at outfit photos lately because I had such a backup from honeymoon posts so I probably won't have any pretty tree photos....

  7. What a cute top! I like the fun touch it adds to the classic black and white outfit. I think you did a great job with the trees too, it adds a nice colourful backdrop! We don't really get the big leaves turning, but I have been trying to be more adventurous with my photos recently and trying to snap some in front of all the pretty jacarandas we have around here right now for spring!

Hope that your week is going well! :)

  9. While I know that you, like me, aren't really a fall person, I'm always surprised you don't chase fall leaves in the same way you chase spring flowers. After all, you do live in a place where fall truly is beautiful - I am always amazed when I travel even a hundred kilometres east, just how much the fall landscape changes (and becomes more beautiful. In Manitoba, we get nothing but brown and yellow leaves.) Red leaves are my favourite - and you're right, they are the perfect contrast to your neutral look.

  14. No pictures with the changing leaves here: it is either too rainy or we are too busy. They have finally started turning pretty colors though!
