After the Holidays

Christmas was filled with lots of family, friends, too much food and lovely new gifts, but right now all I'm craving is a bit of calm and quite, and to keep repeating my mantra to deal with the after holiday sales, "don't shop, don't shop." Hopefully it works at least a little.

As per usual I didn't make the time to photograph either of the outfits I wore on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. In the past I've sometimes made an effort to recreate the looks so that they could eventually get on the blog, though that is really more for my own sake than anyone else's. Right now I suppose I should be posting New Year's Eve looks.

Since my sister is home, I may even being going out for New Year's Eve for the first time in a long time. I can't say I feel remiss over spending the last few falling asleep on the couch. There is too much hype, it's so easy to feel let down. I'd much prefer an intimate gathering with those who mean the most to a big, overpriced night out.

How do you want to ring in the new year?

  1. I always enjoy that top!
Not sure what I'll be up to for new years, probably sitting on the couch, haha

  2. That's a pretty stop! I haven't been out for NYE in a long time! We are most likely staying in and may have family and/or friends over!

  4. I feel the same way--I need some calm and quiet after the crazy of the holidays too! I'm not quite sure when I will get it, as we have another family Christmas to go to over the weekend, but SOON I hope.
I prefer a small gathering for NYE too. I love New Year's but more for the reflection and goal-setting aspect than the partying. My favorite NYE celebrations are spent playing games and hanging out with close friends, and I think that's exactly what we'll be doing this year. I don't like to spend the money on going out for New Year's--places are so crowded too!

  7. I am really hoping to spend this New Years at home, relaxing on the sofa with some TV and a glass or two of wine - I always find Christmas so hectic and this year I also find myself battling a bad cold, so I'm ready to just chill!

  16. Generally, I do go out on New Year's Eve, but primarily with my best friend, and we have a rule that we're both home in pajamas by ten. This year we're having people over, so it may be a bit more lively - or it may not, we'll see how it turns out. But I do have an outfit picked out, which I admit is the part I'm excited about. It's freezing outside, so I doubt the outfit will get photographed. None of my other holiday outfits got more than a single iPhone snap indoors in bad light. And you know what? That's okay :)

  17. I definitely do not fee a desire to go out for NYE unless it would just be to a nice dinner with my husband. The noise and crowds don't really attract me anymore. As a parent I just want my sleep! Haha! Hope you have a nice NYE no matter what you choose!

  19. Well I already broke your mantra since I shopped at lot today but most of the stuff is Christmas decor for next year. Love love that fun ombre floral top. And it matches the beautiful ring perfectly Lydia. Like you my New Year will be more on the casual side but I will dress nice. You look great!

You can read my Holiday New Year's Eve post on the blog now with a brand-new Thursday Moda linkup and meanwhile I'd love for you to join the last "Skirting the Rules" linkup I have going (link below). Happy New Year 2019 and many many blessings and good health into the new year!

  20. That is a fun printed top! I hope you manage to avoid the post-Christmas sales! I've had a look at a few sales but haven't seen anything I have to have - helped by all the great gifts I got for Christmas, I have a bunch of new clothes and accessories I'm excited to wear with things I already own! :)

I don't do NYE - I'm usually asleep in bed, exhausted, haha! Even on nights before kids it was most normally a quiet night in with hubby ringing in the bells on our own.

Hope that you had a wonderful Christmas :) It was a busy but fun one here as I hosted it this year for my family. Now we are enjoying some quiet time at home and eating lots of delicious leftovers, and I'm doing a little bit of blog reading after my break from blogging for a few days!

  22. I have no plans for NYE. I am usually concerned about people drinking and driving.
But I do hope you have fun ;)
