What I Wore to Girls Night

The title of this post says it all, as I don't really have many other photos of the evening which was put on by The Shops at Yale. I have always loved downtown New Haven. People can say what they want about the city, it was the butt of many a Gilmore Girls joke, but I rather like it. Good shopping, great restaurants, and hundreds of great places for outfit photos.

The Girls Night consisted of wine and cheese tasting at J.Crew, Moonrocks cookies at Gant, Cupcakes at Lou Lou, and shopping discounts all around.

I arrived a little before the event so I would have time to take outfit photos before it got dark, and since I was tripoding it, I went for a place where I could find the least amount of foot traffic, but also close to my car, so this little spot right next to the parking lot fit the bill.

I always find it hard to be at an event and participate in it, but also be a blogger dutifully documenting it. How does one sip wine, stuff their face with sample cheese, shop, and take photos of it all? I feel like I can only wear one hat - either I'm the guest enjoying myself, or I'm the photographer documenting the evening and saving the memories for everyone else. This particular evening I chose to simply be a guest, and I practiced so much self restraint at J.Crew. But if you are wondering, I wanted this leopard print blouse, this floral dress, and this bucket bag.

  1. I always joke that if I am enjoying myself somewhere, you won't see any photos of what I'm up to. But the truth is, it isn't a joke - documenting something for posterity/instagram is something I often do when I'm either on my own or with someone who has incredible patience, bored, or feeling awkward in a group. If I'm truly enjoying myself on a night out, there will be no photos. And really, I think sometimes that's how it should be. Even in the digital age, and even as "influencers" - a term I am still loathe to use - we should be able to just have fun sometimes and not worry if anyone knows that we did.

  2. LOL, I love the behind the scenes story of these photos. And I'm beyond amazed at how great they are given you took them with a tripod. More and more in life I'm choosing to be a guest at events and not a photographer. Funny the decisions we are faced with in this day and age!

and I know what you mean, it's definitely hard to juggle everything at events!

  4. This is such a fun outfit for that type of occasion (I love your purse especially). I wish there'd been more things like this going on when I lived in New Haven!

  7. I will be the first to admit I am a horrible blogger when it comes to documenting anything I do. It is much more fun to be in the moment so I think you made the right choice!

  8. Your cami is so cute! :) I definitely have that struggle, not that I go to blogger events often, but when I'm at any kind of event I want to document the memories but also enjoy myself. If you had a fun time that's all that matters in the end really, the experience is what we go for! :) Good idea getting outfit photos before hand too!

Hope that you are having a good week :)

  9. I am so impressed with your tripod skills! I would have never guessed! Haha, I totally feel ya about the documenting/enjoying events. I usually take a few photos or videos at the beginning and just use the rest of the evening to enjoy myself.

  11. I really need to explore downtown New Haven! Rhode Islanders aren't a fan but some of the students I've had that have gone to Yale speak much more favorably of the city! Glad you had such a fun night out and good for you to choose just to be a guest! Gotta find that balance between work and play!
