A Very British Affair

Thanks to Hobbs for collaborating on this post!

If you didn't catch my post yesterday, check it out here - and spoiler alert - the british womenswear brand Hobbs now has a gorgeous flagship store in Greenwich, CT!

Hobbs was kind enough to lend me another piece to style, and I know, I'm super boring and literally chose the same dress in a different print and fabric! It's just such a classic silhouette, and one I know works well for me. Honestly, I was really undecided about which dress I wanted to keep, but my love of stripes ultimately won out.

I can not believe this is the last weekend of August! Even though August is a long month, and there is still mostly all of next week, this is the last weekend. I have no plans other than avoiding stores, because I simply can not do anymore shopping this month. (If you can do some shopping, then take advantage of 20% off everything at Hobbs right now!) Currently I'm feeling really anxious, as our lease is up this month and we have not found anywhere new to live. Even though we got the okay from our landlord to go month-to-month ages ago, I just really had thought we'd be moving soon and of course have my future dog all picked out. Alas, we have not found a house we (I) are willing to commit life savings and the next 10 years to, and pet friendly rentals in our budget are full of cringe worthy kitchens and gross carpets - there are some things I'm simply not willing to compromise on!

If there is one thing I'd like to do this weekend, it would be to find a way to relax and actually enjoy it, rather than my usual approach of doing something which should be relaxing but then feeling guilty the entire time. What do you do when you want to destress?

  1. House hunting is not easy. We got very lucky when we moved back to Winnipeg and found a condo that suited us almost right away, but the reason it suited us mostly is that we liked the space and layout, so we purchased it knowing we would need to make major changes to make it a place we wanted to live long term. Everything seems to be a renovation project these days, we still barely have furniture, never mind anything that resembles deception and, as I type, I am looking at two spots where the laminate in our kitchen no longer adheres to the floor. We're happy with our decision, of course, but it required seriously long term thinking and that isn't for everyone - it wasn't for us in our last property - so sometimes it's just better to stick with renting (and continue living without your future dog) until you find the right space. That's my thought, anyway ;) On a fashion-related note, I love both versions of this dress on you. I'm not normally a fan of anything green, but in this case, I'm more than willing to make an exception, because the dress is just so lovely.

  3. That's a beautiful dress on you - I can see why you had to pick it in another print too!

I wish I had some wise advice for you on the house topic but given that we have been looking for a new place for years and are no closer I don't think I'd have anything valuable to say! Apart from I think it's worth it to wait until you can find the perfect place for you. When we were getting frustrated with the house hunt we came across our current place and it was perfect for us as soon to be newlyweds. We keep house hunting waiting for that 'this is perfect' feeling we will get when we walk through the door. I'm hoping it comes soon! A small place for newlyweds is perfect, not so much when you have two toddlers, ha!

Hope you are having a good week :)

  6. First off, that's a really stunning dress - I absolutely love the print. Secondly, I wish you nothing about the best of luck with the house situation. Hunting for accommodations is about the least fun thing in the world and almost always involves a compromise at some point...which is never fun. But I'm sure you guys will find something that makes you both happy.

  8. If the silhouette works, I think its valid to have it in every colour. I favoured the striped version too.
When it comes to homes, it's always tricky - be patient, you will enter a place and it will just "click" and you'll know that's it.
