Spots and Stripes

I am nothing if not determined to get a ton of use out of this coat. Two blog appearances in one week? Why not? This time I decided to go casual with a couple of my favorite pieces, my ancient trouser jeans, and striped sequined top.

I did have a bit of a concern the other day; does a furry leopard coat look like something you would wear on Halloween if you were going as a pimp?

I've studied these photos long and hard and determined that I do indeed look like a chic, savvy, bargain-hunting fashion blogger. And that I do love this coat.

But the other day in the drugstore this woman was looking at me like I was a crazy person in a costume, and I do have first hand knowledge of that particular look, so you can understand my concern.

  1. I can see how you'd think the coat might look a little bet costumey, but you have managed to style it in a way that is funky/ chic and steers clear from any pimp/ cruella leanings :) Have a good weekend!

  2. It's definitely a statement piece (I used to get the same looks when I wore mine) but it's so chic. I say embrace and screw what people think!

  5. A leopard coat is definitely a statement piece, but you wear it well and with confidence. I want one :) Heather

  6. You get use out of that coat, girl! It's such a sharp piece, so don't worry about us getting bored of seeing it. Besides, then I can figure out how to style mine (if it gets cold again... eep!).

It's paired so well with stripes. And I'm glad to see the wide-legged jeans make a comback! That lady obviously doesn't know what style is. You should have thrown a candy bar at her and ran.

  7. I laughed a little, but i do get the pimp concern.
I think you have to keep it very subtle and simple to avoid going pimp-

  9. I have a vintage leopard coat that I thrifted for $20 It is so pretty and warm and I love leopard. Accually the coat is on my top 5 fav list of all my wardrobe pieces. But anyway, to others who do not have the leopard gene, wearing a coat like this would be uncomfortable and since they feel that way they may trasfer that to other and think they look "funny". However for those os us who have this gene we know leopard is awsome, stylish, warm, and you could never go wrong with a leopard fur coat.

  10. You look lovely in this coat, the wide-collar frames your gorgeous face perfectly. And that's not anything that's ever been said about a pimp. Probably.

  16. Crazy woman in a costume? I feel like that's a look I know well... sigh. Clearly this woman knew nothing about fashion in the 1960s. Everyone had a leopard coat then. Some were even real leopard (one of my friends has her grandmother's).

  22. i might be a wee bit biased since i ordered a clearance furry leopard coat last week, but i think they look AMAZING! maybe just stay away from pairing it with fedoras and excessive gold chains to avoid the pimp look. :)

  27. I love your look- so chic and pretty! The look would take a turn for "pimpland" if you added a cane and wore a baby blue leisure suit underneath it...hahaha!

  30. This coat is an absolute dream! Honestly, a good leopard print is hard to find and you struck gold with this beauty; it's deserving of a wholeweek of styling on the blog, I think! There are just so many different ways you could wear it, but I love the classic pairing of a striped blosue and wide-legged jeans :)

  31. I dunno, you paired the leopard coat with such a classic look, it doesn't look pimp-ish at all to me. (But then, I own a leopard coat o I might have leopard blinders on...) It looks very stylish to me, she must have been staring in envy of such a gorgeous coat.

  38. Not alot of people can pull off the leopard coat, and you definitely can rock it. This doesn't scream pimp unless you're going to be walking down the street with a cane and a pimp cup...which I'm sure you won't. Definitely a chic, savvy, bargain hunting fashion blogger wear!

  43. I feel ya! I think what we know that the rest f the world doesnt is that in the blog world these coats are on point. surrounded by a bunch of normal folk, we wind up feeling crazy. Mine is in the mail coming from ASOS any day now. I think the trick is to be classy and simple underneath the crazy print, but yeah I get you. Kudos for 2 wears in a week!:)
