It's black

Today I realized something; this top is black.
I know what you are thinking, "Well duh Lydia, of course this top is black, what other color could it possibly be?"
Navy. That's what color. That is what I thought it was when I bought it, that is what I thought it was the first time I wore it, despite the fact that it looked black in the photos; and now, that the cruel reality is upon me, I've decided that I don't really like this top anymore, because it's not navy!

This is me, laughing because I am a fool.
It's black
See this little triangle necklace? Would you believe that this is the first time it's been worn in 13 years? I found it on the floor when I was in middle school and the clasp was broken off. I brought it home, stuck it in my jewelry box and forgot about. I rediscovered it the other day, replaced the clasp, and here it is.

  1. Haha, my coworker comes in today and the first thing she asks me, frantically, is "ARE THESE PANTS NAVY OR BLACK?" Must be one of those days! That belt is adorrrrable and I ususally eschew anything with a bow.

  2. I seriously cannot distinguish between black and navy ever. I had black Converse for about three years that I would swear to God were navy. Your whole outfit looks dark blue to me. It could be the computer screen, or it could be my eyesight. Let's go with the computer screen...but I highly doubt that's the case.

    I'm diggin' your pants!

  3. I always do that! I have these skinny jeans and I could have sworn they were a dark blue wash, but lo and behold, they were black. Still are too! :)

I love the shirt! But I'm a sucker for anything with a cute print.

    Loving the laughing picture!

  5. First of all that top looks amazing on you! Forget the color specifics, it is amazing! Secondly, Black and Navy don't clash, they are both neutrals!! Neutrals can't clash, because they are just that...neutral :) Well at least that's how I justify and mis-matching I may do!

  6. I think you're crazy! The top is so cute - navy or black. I also love the matching theme going with the bow print and the bow on the belt. Love the pics too!

  9. Your whole outfit looks navy to me. Or maybe black. I can't really tell. Either way it looks great on you. I love how the belt really pops!

  11. I always have problems separating the navies from the black! But, on another note, I love the way you accessorized this look, the belt and red shoes add such a nice little pop of color.

  13. Wondered why the title was 'It's black' as your outfit looked navy or dark blue to me. But that could be the monitor settings. Anyhow I like the outfit, navy blue or black , I like it!

  17. I love rediscovering old jewelry.
Isn't it funny how many shades of black or white exist? It still looks great on you dear!

  18. I have real trouble distinguishing black from navy myself. When I thrift something like that, I always ask for a second opinion to test my eyes. Last month, I had a polka-dotted blouse I thought was an olive green. It never made it to my blog because by the end of the day, I had decided that the olive green was actually black!

  19. Funny what we can randomly find on the floor... Anyways, I can see why you thought the shirt was navy blue. It looks navy blue...

  22. Aww, I still like the top! But I know how you feel, navy is such a beautiful and rich color. It is so close to black that sometimes it can be confusing in the wrong lighting.

  23. oh my gosh, i do that too! i buy something thinking it's one color, then realize one day i'm completely wrong, and it's just not the same... haha. ;)

  26. I definitely have that problem with black and navy. Your top does look navy to me, but then so does the rest of your outfit, so it's probably my screen. It's a really cute top though, whichever color it might actually be.

  30. I'm eternally holding up navy or black items and comparing them to true black items to try to figure out if it is navy or black. urgh!
    I love the top, though!

  32. Well what ever colour it is it's cute! That necklace is great too, I am a total magpie in work coz people break and lose things in the pub all the time. I have been stashing everything away for a few months. Soon I am going to do some DIY projects and make some stuff to sell, get my etsy shop up and running!

  37. U look fabulous.
Sometimes when I am not sure if something is black - i put it next to a black garment - so i can make sure....

  38. I can not believe you held onto that necklace this whole time!
And I think your top looks navy :)

  39. you had me at triangle necklace.

  40. Ummm yeah i thought to was navy too. But I routinely ask strangers in stores if something is black/navy so I'm not much to go on. I can't believe it's taken you so long to wear that necklace, it's really pretty and delicate (and not reminiscent of the 90s/boy bands/blue glitter at all)!

  41. Haha, I still think your blouse is pretty, navy or not. :D

  42. Your belt is stunning ... oh if only :-)

I photographed a new top today and the colour in the photo and reality are worlds apart. I also find black and navy hard to tell apart at times.
