Happiness At Midlife's Throwback Thursday (first time I wore this skirt)

Kaleidoscopic

After seeing this dress on a fellow blogger, and realizing it had a fabulous Mara Hoffman like print for the lovely Target price of $24.99 I didn't think twice before adding it to my cart. (Actually it was even less having picked it up during a 20% off promotion.)

It's bright and perhaps even a bit overwhelming in it's shapeless cut, but it feels summery and easy, so I love it.

Perfectly coordinated. That is how this outfit came about, a collection of items from different stores, purchased at different times, which all just happen to match.

I may have claimed from time to time that I don't like to be 'matchy', but it's hard to resist pairing things that just seem to want to be together.

Golden Pineapple

Rejoice! It would seem last years' pineapple print trend is still going to be really big this year. Thus far I've seen the golden fruit on shorts at Loft, on a French Connection tee at TJMaxx, and on a popover at Target. I have not yet seen J.Crew reprise the pineapple, but I suspect it's only a matter of time.

Today I'm keeping the fruit casual with double denim and my wool baseball cap. What do you suppose the cutoff is for wearing a wool cap? Memorial Day? Should we take the (ridiculous) white rule and apply it to wool?

mint + orange

I think you might actually be able to tell this dress is orange here, right? Can we agree it looks orange in these photos and not red, like here and here?

It was ridiculously windy when I took these photos, and it was not working out for my hair, unless "giant frizz ball" is in these days. I often see models rocking the messy hair, but I feel like it's the styled kind of messy, and not the wind ravaged natural look I've got going on here.

ThredUP

I love shopping for clothing secondhand. Be it thrift, consignment, or even tag sale, it is a great way to help keep within my shopping budget and allows me to add higher end pieces to my wardrobe at prices I can stomach.  

Of course these stores are highly localized, require me to scour through the racks, and if I hope to find the good stuff, I have to visit frequently so I can get it as soon as it comes in. It can be fun, but it can also be frustrating and exhausting. 

You can imagine how excited I was when I heard about ThredUP, an online consignment store, with a huge, searchable inventory. 

Looking for a black cocktail dress in a size six? With a couple of clicks you've got nearly two hundred to choose from. 

ThredUP isn't just for shopping either, they are a consignment shop, which means you can send them your clothes for cash. Personally I've never liked brining my clothes to consignment stores, because I hated feeling judged by the person looking over my clothes. With ThredUP, you can check the value of your clothes at home, decide what is worth sending, then mail them in. No worrying about judgement, just money in your PayPal account. 

This week I am participating in the ThredUP style challenge, where I was given $150 to create a week's worth of outfits. Because I found such amazing deals, like this new with tags silk dress for only $30, I was actually able to purchase eight items. So you will be seeing all of my purchases over the next few days.
