Ordinary Life

I can't believe I haven't posted in three weeks, though in my defense, the last two have been a blur with the world turned to panic over the corona virus pandemic. Remember back at the beginning of the month when life was normal and the virus seemed like a problem far, far, away? Apparently just a few miles from me a party was taking place actively spreading the virus in my state.

My month of fun blogger gatherings has been canceled, though rare, I actually had something for every weekend, and each passing Saturday has felt just a little more sad, thinking about the life being missed out on as we remain tucked away at home.

As my only income at the moment is dog walking with Wag!, naturally the more people are staying home with their pups, they less they need me. I was grateful to have a couple clients this week, I assume their moms have essential jobs they can't stay home from, thus making my job essential. That's how I look at it anyway - I don't think there is much risk in going into a house empty of people as long as I regularly use hand sanitizer. I soaked in every moment of my walks this week, trying to cling to the sense of purposefulness I had at that moment, and the joy of spending time with a dog.

The days at home lead to boredom, which lead to shopping, and now I feel like I can't even scroll through two posts on Instagram without being sucked into a vortex of shopping temptation. Despite my sudden drop in income, there seems to be a disconnect with the logical part of my brain that should be telling me not to click 'add to cart'. In my weakest defense, realtors desperate to keep operations going are serving up some good sales.

I want to try and get back to normal blog posts, try to FaceTime more with my friends who I now haven't seen in weeks, and try to find some creativity in myself. I've been missing it for a long time now, and this housebound situation is making me acutely aware of it.

Of all the disasters that keep us stuck at home, at least we get power and internet access for this one. Silver lining, right?

  2. It seems strange to admit this, but I think I would actually be quite enjoying quarantine if the current disaster wasn't a health disaster. Since my job is managing a team of people who work with the sick and injured, however, the last two weeks of my work life have been a stress-filled blur. In the mean time, the restaurant where Ian works is temporarily closed which means he is home relaxing while I put in long hours just to try to stay afloat. All of this is nothing to complain about - we are safe, healthy and comfortable, with the financial means to get through this. But it's certainly been a point of frustration, one that has led to me filling countless online carts and planning my purchases, week by week, for the next month to ensure package keep popping up at my door consistently to keep my spirits up. It feels even sillier writing it down than it does while I'm in the thick of it, but, well, here we are. I'm glad you still have some work and, better still, work that allows you to get outside safely. One thing I know for sure is just how much we will appreciate the opportunity to wear all the things we buy in this time once this is all over.

  3. I've settled into such a strange routine working from home - everything just feels so bizarre and surreal right now, and very claustrophobic. I'm just focusing on getting through...and not online shopping too much (which I am absolutely engaging in as way to lift my spirits).

  4. Oooh I love that sweater!! May need to go to Target when this is all over, haha.
I haven't had any blogging events in months anyway so nothing much has changed for me. Guess I shouldve joined that network, haha! But I can't afford it right now

  5. Yes, thank goodness for internet and television! I don't know how I would survive all of these without it! I've been trying to get lots of ideas for my children through pinterest and it has been a lifesaver! I hope all of this ends soon!

  6. that's such a cosy cardi :) I'm glad you are still finding some work coming through - hubby and I are lucky we can work from home but that does complicate things now the schools are closed and we have the little ones to look after at the same time as working!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend! It's another quiet one at home here.

  7. HI L! I am certainly happy to see you've posted.
We have been on lockdown for a over a week. Cannot go outside, just pharmacy and supermarket bound for 2 hours a day. Somedays women, others men.
Who would have known 2020 would be so... surprising to say it best.
I am glad to hear at least you get to go outside, take care.
