What to Wear to Thanksgiving

Some years Thanksgiving is a casual affair, you can find me in my most comfortable pair of jeans and a sweater, other times I delight in the idea of having an occasion to get dressed for. The past few years I've been a big advocate for the long sleeve dress - sleeveless dresses in late fall tend to require additional layers, but with sleeves, a simple one piece outfit is back within grasp, and isn't that the best part of a dress after all?

The moment I saw this golden leopard faux wrap dress, I knew it would be perfect for Thanksgiving. The rich color epitomizes the fall season, with the jacquard leopard print being just my style. Plus it was on sale for $75, and I don't need much more convincing than that! Fortunately it can still be scooped up for 40% off plus an additional 10% as the Friends of Ann sale lasts through Tuesday.

The final reason I advocate for wearing a dress on a holiday such as Thanksgiving is for the comfort factor - I love my high waist skinny jeans, but they can stay in the closet until after the leftovers are gone.

Do you enjoy getting dressed up for Thanksgiving, or do you prefer to keep it casual?

  1. I'm not sure my family would know how to react if anyone anything fancier than jeans and a sweater for a holiday. It's partly because fashion is definitely not important to anyone but me, but also partly because it's always freezing at the holidays here, so nothing but heavy layers makes any sense. I would love to get to wear something as lovely as this dress to Thanksgiving instead of a giant sweater and skinny jeans but, sadly, I'll just have to live vicariously through you, instead ;)

  2. Your dress is stunning! I'll be in our kitchen getting prepped so I don't think a gorgeous dress like this is in the cards for me. I'll live vicariously through you!

  3. That dress is so stunning! It's really only been since Eleanor was born that I've started dressing up a bit for family holiday celebrations (must be because I'm desperate for places to go out to that involve even a bit of dressing up, ha ha) and would love to wear something as stunning as this.

  7. I'm like you- it varies year to year. My cousins all get in a group text and hash out if we're dressing up or down, haha.

  8. Lydia, you are a vision in this dress! You look stunning! I always dress very casually for Thanksgiving because my in-laws are really casual people (my SIL usually wears sweats LOL) but I really hope that we can all get dolled up one year. I really love your dainty necklaces too...I want this entire outfit in my closet!

  14. Usually I like to dress up, a dress like this is something I would wear - it is beautiful.
This year I am in Mexico traveling so Thanksgiving dinner did not happen for me, a tortilla soup did.
