Pearl Buttons

Earlier this year when I was smitten with a cardigan from Musier Paris, save for its plunging neckline, I thought I might get a similar cardigan and swap the standard brown buttons it came with for faux pearl buttons.

Even the simplest of DIY projects are known to take me ages to complete, but I was feeling motivated a few weekends ago and finally tackled my to-do pile, which included hemming two pairs of pants and of course changing the buttons on the cardigan.

While I was pleased with how it came out, when I started searching for similar items to link for this post I discovered that not only does Forever 21 have a perfect dupe of the original cardigan with a slightly higher neckline, but at only $25 it would ring in even less than my DIY. And don't even get me started on the cropped wide leg houndstooth pants I spotted at Zara, now that I finally took the time to hem the pair I got at H&M.

  1. I think it really came out beautifully - although I completely appreciate the frustration of finding out there was a Forever 21 dupe all the along. But I think yours is a labour of love and now has a story attached to it. So take that Forever 21!

  2. Such a cute cardi, the pearl buttons look really nice on it! it's always frustrating when we buy something and find something similar elsewhere! :( I have no DIY skills so haven't found something I've made somewhere yet hehe!

I think you should still be proud of your cardi, looks so nice worn as a top :)

Hope that your week is going well :) It's very smokey here still but we are lucky and safe from the bushfires.

  9. I love that you take the time, and have the skill, to do these kinds of projects, even if the end result is that you find a similar style elsewhere. After all, no one will ever have this exact cardigan except you. (And I can't even begin to count how many similar ones I saw during my weekend shopping adventures in NYC, but not a single one had the pearl buttons I was craving thanks to you ;)). Speaking of which, love that we finally got to meet in person after all these years, such a fun day.
