Spring Essentials

When I'm home in Connecticut, I often feel like I get jipped when it comes to spring. Most of the time I'm still in heavy sweaters and furry coats all through April - even into May! I know I'm hardly alone in that struggle, so I'm taking this moment to showcase all my favorite pieces that should be spring essentials, even if they might not work for the actual spring weather some of us experience.

The blazer. I love blazers, even though I haven't been in an office setting which has required them in years, they still really pull a look together. They dress up jeans, make for a casual topper over a fancy dress, and I just equate them with polish.

The Cropped Jean. Typically by the time it's finally warm enough for me to consider cropped jeans, it's probably warm enough for bare legs and then you know I'm opting for bare legs. However in a perfect spring weather world, the cropped jean is the happy medium. Still keeping you warm, yet letting you show some skin.

The closed toe shoe which isn't a boot. Yes, I put my feet through cold freezing hell wearing ballet flats, or mules, or pumps, when I should have on sherpa lined boots instead, because much like the cropped jeans, it often feels like once it's warm enough for shoes like these mules, I could just be wearing sandals.

So there you have it, Californians get to enjoy more of what I would consider perfect spring weather than I ever do, even though it's still technically winter.

What are your spring essentials? Realistically, optimistically, or somewhere in between?

  1. This really is the perfect spring outfit. Spring in Winnipeg lasts for all of two days - generally, we jump right from snow and cold and t-shirt weather. I wore my leather jacket once all of last year, because there was only one day when the weather was actually appropriate for it. Needless to say, I do envy the west coast for its spring weather. It's the winter weather that made me leave - all the rain and grey is just too much for me.

  4. I feel like over the years jeans have naturally become longer in length, so I've been gravitating to a subtle crop jean! I picked up a few pairs from AGOLDE and love them.

  6. Spring is so slow in coming here and flips back to winter so easily that my spring essentials usually all revolve around layering options.

  8. I love that blazer and top together, they are such a good colour combo! And I love a blazer and jeans outfit :) I find spring is usually quite wet here - so some days I'm more layered up than others! :) I kinda divide my wardrobe up more into summer / winter than 4 different seasons, as spring and autumn temps can vary so much!

Hope that your weekend is off to a great start! The cyclone has moved further offshore which is good news, but we will still have a quiet weekend in case it comes back!

  10. Yep...I can totally relate, because that's how it's here in Denver. There are days of spring before May. But we've been known to have snow on Mother's Day. Many times...not just once.
And even when it warms up in the day, the mornings and evenings are still very chilly. Maybe that's why I like summer even better??

  11. I'm so glad you are enjoying a true spring! It seems that so often we skip right from winter to summer. At least you are taking advantage of it all. I love close toed shoes and cropped pants, too! Hopefully we at least have a week or two of decent weather.

  15. Honestly spring clothes are the least worn items in my closet because they don't really get worn so I tend to really focus more on either basics during that time and layering so that I can wear a dress in the summer as well!

  18. It totally depends on the area! KA weather is fairly temperate yesround but I live a couple of hours away and puts is totally different! We're on the opposite side of the spectrum where it's spring for two weeks and then immediately jumps into summer (110 degrees) so I totally get it! Spring is my favorite too!!

  20. I feel the same way--spring is always WAY too short around here. I love weather that calls for just a light jacket or blazer and shoes without socks. And I feel like those days are always rare. Maybe I need to move to CA!!

  21. Very chic Lydia.
I am actually missing a pair of cropped jeans. My one pair of boyfriend cropped jeans literally fell apart a few months ago.
