To the brim

I was hoping to expand my ever growing hat collection with this black fedora from OASAP, but I feel like it is missing it's mark. The hat which is described as 'woolen' is a cotton-poly blend, quite stiff, a little big, and I feel comes across as more 'pilgrim' than anything thing else.

My search for a black fedora continues. Any recommendations?

  1. Love the black and blue combo and I think the hat looks good but I get it when it just doesn't feel or fit right! I have a tiny head and I can never find hats to fit my head sorry no recs here.

  2. Loving the black and navy! And ugh, such a shame about the hat, I hate when things don't live up to expectations!

  3. I love that you described it as pilgrim. I hope you find one you like but I think a fedora would really suit you.

  4. That hat looks wonderful on you,but I know how it is when it just don't feel right. Oh, you have a gorgeous blue velvet blazer. I have been for a hunt for blue velvet blazer for years. I love how you paired in such a strong look playfully playing with man fashion trend. I hope you will find perfect fedora for yourself.

  5. That's the funny thing about hats - they can be so good, but they can also be so, so bad. This one does look on the good side in photos, I admit. Particularly when you're looking down, the stiff brim gives you a lovely, mysterious vibe. But I'm not discounting the fact that I have a serious bias to love this look because it is all black and muted blue and there is a fedora and velvet and all of those things are perfection in my eyes.

  6. It is really hard to buy a hat online since you have no idea how it will fit or look till you try it on. Hats are usually too big on me, so I'm not much help!

  9. If I didn't have an emotional connection to the one I'm wearing in today's post, I would totally send it over to you (and honestly, if you really want it, let me know and I will send it anyway--my kids give me things all the time). I'm glad for your hat binge because you look great in them!

  16. You know... I was in love with this one fedora at Forever XXI. It was $20 and I kept on passing on it but it haunted my dreams. Then I bought it without trying it on because I totally thought it would naturally look great. NOPE! Just kidding. Haven't worn it once because it's like it's too small for my head. Ugh.

  18. I LOVE your blazer. I've been dying for a velvet blazer for forever and now can't seem to find any. I saw them years ago at J.Crew Factory but they seem to have gone out of style in stores? I don't know. But I'm super jealous of yours! I love the whole black and blue ensemble. I'm not very good with finding hats because my head is too small. I do love the hats at Anthro because they are a little different but they are expensive!

  21. I personally love the slightly oversized look, but then again, I can see how you think it looks pilgrimm-y. I bet it's going to be one of those things you have to try on in person a million times until you find the perfect one. I know that feeling--I still can't find the perfect black heels! It should be so simple, right?! But it's not...

Aah, the blue and black together looks so slick. I'm getting a definite Michael Jackson vibe from this look and I luuuuhh it, Lydia!

  23. I, too, have been on the hunt for a good winter wool brimmed hat. Forever 21 has some options right now. I think you really need to try them on to get a good feel but I have an aversion to this (kids with communicable disease issues at school). I think department stores are a good source too but it may be too late with spring merchandise coming in. BTW, I never would have noticed your "imperfect" hat unless you mentioned it. I just commented on another blog that we are too hard on ourselves. Don't point out what you perceive as a negative because others won't notice! Really.

  33. One of my style "goals" if you will is to wear more hats. I like simple black ones that blend in with my hair color. I'm also a fan of black and navy, nice combo!
