Do you have the time?

"I'm sorry, it's not mine for me to keep."

Do you have the time?

Not a single person commented on the three watches today. Not one. I guess my office is just that immune to my fashion choices.

Today I was thinking about cost per wear; as this dress and these boots are both one year old this month.

The dress was an absolute steal from Kohls. Originally $78, marked down and then with a coupon I managed to bring it home for a mere $3.26. Since then, I've worn it an impressive six times. (Wait, you don't think six times in a year is impressive? Maybe we just have different standards.)

Thanksgiving with Vera Wang, Poetic License and Forever 21 Olive First day at Poiano capsuel challenge day 2 Same dress, different style

So my cost per wear is only $0.54, but that wasn't too hard.

The boots were a much pricier purchase, $72 and were my last shoe splurge for the year. I've worn them (an even more impressive) nine times!

Blue Striped Skirt, Pink Sweater, Cognac Booties Yellow, Pink and Orange! Colors that don't match Peachy Losing Daylight Fall Floral Brownie don't much care for rain

Which brings them to $8 per wear. Though I probably wore them a few more times that I don't have photos of, since I did not take photos every day throughout last winter.

Outfit photos are an interesting way to take stock of the things you have, and realize which items are the real work horses, and which are just space hogs.

Do you know what your most worth while purchases were?

  2. That is the truth. I find that it's been much easier to edit my closet now that I've started taking pictures of my outfits.
Those boots and that dress are great pieces. Also - I love that you wore three watches. Well done.

  3. Wow, you can't beat the price on that dress - love it! The boots are fabulous, too.

I have very few expensive items in my wardrobe, and I wear everything A LOT (oh the joy of being a graduate student!), so I'm sure my cost-per-wear of most things is pretty low. I've never stopped to think it through, though - I kind of wish I had everyday outfit photos to figure it out.

Oh yes, and I love the three watches!

  4. yep. I have two dresses that are exactly the same in black & brown and I wear them ALL. THE. TIME.

I am pretty sure the CPW on them is pretty low. Like $.10 a wear. LOL

  5. I love this outfit, the color palette is great, fallish colors with red, I can't believe how much jewelry there was in The Cavernous Jewelry Box!
As far as the clothes I buy, sometimes the ones at the thrift store end up being more expensive than the clothes from the store, but the ones that I wear all the time are my white long sleeved shirts, I've bought them all second-hand but I can't get enought of white shirts. =D

  6. I think my most worthwhile purchase was definitely a pair of boots I got 2 years ago. They're so old and beat up but I couldn't stand to get rid of them..cost per wear on them must be less than $1!

  7. That dress is so pretty! i love how you styled it! It looks great with that red coat in particular!

  8. OMG I cannot BELIEVE you got that dress for under $4!!!! WHAT!? That's insane! It's sooo nice, and it IS impressive you wore it 6 times in the past year, but what's more impressive is that you captured the outfit ALL SIX TIMES. Wow. That's dedication.

Secondly, I'm dying over the first picture - you look INSANELY AMAZING, Lydia!!! Your hair is gorrrrgeous too.

What a great cost per wear analysis... hmm, I'm not sure what my most worth while purchases are... well, there is a top that I MADE and I've worn it quite a bit, and to wear something multiple times in just a few months (like you) is impressive, so... ya!

  14. I think wearing a dress that many times would be way impressive for me! nice job :) I think my sweaters have been on some good wearing runs so those might be the most worth while purchases :)

  15. red really suits you, and i am so in love with your jacket!

  16. Yeah, that's why daily outfit taking would be good. I only take 2-3 outfit pics a week, and i know for a fact that some of my items almost never feature, even though I wear them all the time. I have this purrple button down shirt I probably wear once a week, and I can't actually find a photo with it in it!

  17. I adore this dress on you! You look fab, at such a steal!

I wish I had taken outfit photos when I was in my teens - how fun would it be to see how styles change :)

  18. I can't believe nobody noticed your cool watch style...

I love that you've gotten so much good use out of these pieces. It make me so happy when I can see that I'm getting my money's worth out of something :)

  19. That's a great point about outfit photos! I took a similar inventory this weekend when I was putting together my list of 30 items for the 30 for 30 challenge - I noticed that some of them had already made 5-6 appearances on the blog just since August!

It's funny that no one in your office said anything about 3 watches. My favorite part of this outfit is actually the red jacket - that's such a good color on you!

  20. I'm in love with this outfit of yours, you look just perfect!
The jacket is lovely and fits you really well and those watches add a nice twist to the look! Love it:)

  21. What actually impressed me about this post was that you took time to break down the cost per wear by the number of times you wore them in a year!! I don't think I ever think about that because that'll pressure me too much and take the fun out of dressing up, but at the same time, thinking smart about these things might actually help you feel better if you make large purchases lol.

I can't believe no one commented on the 3 watches! That's just odd. Maybe they're used to you wearing something unusual for them (which is normal and fashionable for us) that they ignore just about everything. Haha. That reminds me of an episode in The Office where the characters noticed that this one guy Stanley didn't notice the things, however crazy, going on around him because he just got so used to them. They started doing extremely crazy things to get him to notice them, but he still didn't flinch!!

What a steal from Kohl's! I feel like you need to be congratulated and to all the other bloggers who find such an incredible stuff for such low prices. :)

  24. Wow - a $3 dress! What an amazing bargain shopper you are! And maybe the multiple watches thing is just so IN at your office people didn't even notice it. No one notices when I wear multiple watches either!!

    Sometimes people have blinders on!

And "space hogs" is such a great way to describe junk in your wardrobe that takes up space. It's now my word of the day that I'll keep in mind as I'm pulling stuff out in my 30 Day Challenge!;-)
    Thanks for your sweet comment!

  29. Gosh I love all these colors combined!! I had some red flats that I had to throw away because I wore them to the ground. I bought them new at Banana Republic for $19 and am pretty sure I wore them several hundred times. Probably 1 penny per wear, now I have to find a replacement pair!

  30. I'd be wearing those boots all around town too! My mama's vintage boots didn't cost me anything and I wear those babies constantly!

  31. I totally love this outfit on you. The red and the green work really well together.

Lame office I'd say, how can you not notice 3 watches?

    ReplyDelete
  32. That is such a pretty dress, love that shade of green.
I try to "keep track" of cost per wear with formal wear.
It upsets me that formal/cocktail dresses are expensive and get minimum wear!
I have begun purchasing WHAT IF and MAYBE gowns, as in WHAT if I am invited to a wedding this year or MAYBE I will have a cocktail to attend to...
I order to get the max out of these garments, even if purchased at good prices, I lend them to a handful of friends.
That way they are not unwashed for so long, garments are maintained clean, my friends don't have to buy stuff they will not use in the future and so on....
Now, it's JUST carefully picked friends, friends that take care of things, wash them according to labels and return them clean a few days after being worn.

  33. BTW I forgot.
You got like a super lame office.
What is wrong with these people ?
