I'm not in West Hartford too often, perhaps once a year. But the other weekend it was my cousin's birthday, so we went to go visit him. It was a perfect evening for having dinner outdoors, people watching in Blue Back Square. Then we recognized a couple passing by, Sean's cousin who's wedding we attended a month ago. As we socialized with them, another familiar face appeared, my best friend's little brother, and to top it off, it was half off cheesecake day at the Cheesecake Factory.
It was kind of a perfect evening, even if bumping into people in the town they happen to live in isn't an extraordinary thing, it still felt like it was meant to be.
When Meg and I planned a brunch at Terrain to be followed by the Darphin launch event at Anthropologie, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to debut my new Free People jumpsuit. However, one small issue was that it was still about four inches too long even with my highest platform sandals on. I fully intended to hem it properly, but forgot that I don't have an iron at my apartment, so instead I had a movie marathon while I hand sewed all evening. Short people problems.
I know I've been pretty anti-jumpsuit, and that is mostly because of the annoyance of getting out of it to use the bathroom, but since this is strapless, it was pretty easy. (I went and complicated things with the belt.) And I really did enjoy wearing it and embracing my inner bohemian. Plus my latest set from Rocksbox paired with it perfectly, I'm even debating keeping the cute opal ring...
Even though I didn't end up purchasing any of the Darphin products, it was still a good excuse for a long overdue blogger meet up with Meg, and since we were already in Westport, we had to make a stop at Roundabout for their end of season sale - it's a tradition! And in keeping with the tradition, I was pretty good and only got one thing, a floral print Equipment blouse.
It's clear that the summertime allows my style to become much more playful. Colors and prints are worn without reservation, and the round rattan bag has been the anchor. When JORD contacted me to review one of their stunning wood watches, I decided to go with the Frankie style in the zebrawood and champagne, as I love the light natural shade of the wood and the gold hardware (because I love gold everything, and while I might have chosen the navy face, it's silver hardware was just not going to work for me). The unique wood watch could not be a more perfect compliment to the rattan bag, and my summer style right now. The watch is also quite the conversation piece - very few people have ever encountered a wood watch!
I really love how lightweight and comfortable the watch is to wear - also it's worth noting that this is the smaller version of the Frankie with the 35mm watch face rather than the 45mm, which is more sized for men.
This past winter I gave Sean a watch for Christmas, even though he was adamant that he was not a watch person. Well, that certainly did change and now he won't leave the house without it. JORD has some gorgeous men's watches and even offers engraving, plus they come in a gorgeous wood box with a magnetic lid, which would make for such a perfect gift - even though it's August and I don't want to think about the holiday season yet, it doesn't hurt to have an idea in the back of my mind!
