Shop Small: Marijane Boutique

Small businesses are the life blood of our communities, and I want to share one of my favorite local shops, Marijane Boutique. If you are a Connecticut local, you can find this charming shop full of both new and consignment pieces in the Guilford center, and if not, you can always shop online!

Upon entering the boutique, owner Lisa LoRicco instantly makes you feel warm and welcome, and it's easy to lose track of time chatting with her while browsing through the shop. It's not hard to see the influence of her fashion design and illustration background, and she is truly as much of a fashion lover as you would expect; confessing to have immediately fallen in love with a newly consigned Ferragamo scarf, trying it on, and admitting she was likely going to buy it herself.

It's no secret that I love shopping consignment, as it puts gorgeous designer pieces at more attainable price points, plus, there is always something new to discover each time I visit. Covetable Chanel, luxurious cashmere, unique vintage pieces, and some perfectly curated retail items, means it is hard to leave Marijane Boutique empty-handed.

Shop small, shop local, keep your community thriving. I hope if you are in Connecticut you are able to visit Marijane Boutique, and you can mention this post to get 15% off your purchase!

Calm before the storm

This weekend Jessica shared an article about letting your home 'buffer', which is certainly something I've been dealing with for the last two months, and things are finally starting to come together. This weekend the soundbar got mounted to the tv, my secretary desk took yet another coat of paint and I ordered new shiny gold hardware for it,  and I started to let my mind actually wander to the idea of how I'd like to decorate for the holidays.

They are here, by the way.

This was the last weekend that I had before Thanksgiving and Christmas completely consume the next six. Six might seem like a lot of weekends right now, but really it's not. The chaos at the shopping malls has already begun and I am resolved to avoid them as much as possible. Now is the time for optimism. Getting shopping and wrapping done before the 11th hour, baking all the cookies I want to make without mishap, and still somehow carving out time to order a cheese pizza, watch Home Alone and pause long enough to enjoy the Christmas season.

Sweater weather

I'm not quite sure what the weather is up to this fall. We had the most perfect autumn day, bright and sunny, cool and crisp. What better day to wear than this gorgeous sequined wool blend sweater from Wallis's new W collection?

Then yesterday it was 80°.

I'll I can say is that I hope we don't jump from 80 to freezing and miss out on more days when I can simply wear a sweater and jeans and be perfect. Considering how quintessentially autumnal this embellished sweater is, with it's glistening coppers and pale blues, it does need a few more outings this fall. The style, as fancy as it is, reminds me of a baseball tee, and I think it would be so fun to pair it with my grey wool cap and converse. Or perhaps take a cue from the rest of Wallis's stunning, exclusive collection and dress it up with a metallic jacquard or a sleek leather pencil skirt.

Thank you to Wallis for providing me with this sweater. My views and opinions as always, are completely my own.

Wear it later

The Wallis fashion week competition ended last night, and while I did not place, I did get over 100 votes, and I want to thank all of you who supported me, because it means a lot.

This is how I might style this dress for early Fall, the trench is my go-to coat for transitional weather. It works well on it's own, but can be layered, and the length is perfect for dresses. It isn't too bulky and khaki of course, goes with everything.

Did you see how I styled it for summer?

This is definitely my summer work uniform - and one that I love because it's simple and comfortable.

It's really too hot out now to wear wearing a blazer out of doors, but my office always manages to keep temps at sub zero, so the long sleeves are essential.
