Carry it all

Today I'm donning a new tote from Linger Rose, a designer handbag site. This is the London Fog Knightsbridge tote; a spacious faux ostrich bag with gold hardware and lots of pockets. This is an excellent carry-all. I can fit my camera inside with my padded insert, all my usual purse essentials, and still have lots of room to spare.

The teal color is deep enough to be a used as a neutral, but of course I love how the green tones contrast with the red sweater.

It's all white

I had been wanting to do an all white outfit this summer, so I decided to make the best of the Everybody Everywear prompt (which I did not vote for because I voted for hats!) and go for the best summer monochromatic look I could think of.

Color blocked, again

I have to say I'm really disappointed that today's Everybody Everywear is color blocking and not hats.
Because first of all, I actually remembered to go and vote (which I never do) and secondly I really love hats, especially summer hats, and third I bought a new hat over the weekend, so I could have shown it off.

But instead, I'm color blocking.
Could I have also worn at hat? Sure. But I didn't think about that until just now.

Ikant

I know I have a problem with prints. I fall for one, and then just become obsessed. It happened with stripes, it happened with leopard, and now it has clearly happened with ikat.

I tried not to buy these shorts at Loft the other day, I really did. I told myself I'd just gotten two ikat print dresses. I rationalized that I already had a pair of ikat shorts for this summer, but peer pressure and my favorite sign in the whole world (Extra 50% off sale!) caused me to break down and purchase them.

Spending $17.49 on a pair of cute shorts I don't need is hardly the worst shopping budget blunder I've ever committed.

But really, don't let me purchase anymore ikat print this summer, okay?

Search for the perfect skirt

I often hear other bloggers talking about how they love to wear maxi skirts to the office because they are so comfortable they feel like they are working in their pjs.

That sounded pretty good to me, but I didn't feel that my striped maxi was office appropriate. I began to search for my perfect maxi skirt.

I wanted it to be black, in a non-clingy, opaque fabric, that was full enough on the bottom to balance out my wide hips (no ice cream cone syndrome please!), and long enough that I could wear it with my usual three inch heels.

I went to three stores and tried on no fewer than 15 skirts before I finally decided on this one by Max Studio. The MSRP is $78, the TJ Maxx price is $25. I had to settle for navy, since I couldn't find the black one in a medium and I was convinced that the small would be too tight. After wearing the medium for a day, I think the small probably would have been okay.

The other surprising challenge was finding a skirt that was long enough. Being 5'2" I'm typically swimming in everything, but most of the skirts would have been short enough for me to wear flats in.

Which brings up the question that's been bothering me - where should the hem of a maxi dress hit? Should you see your feet or should it skim the floor?

Pastels

It's Everybody Everywear again, and this month's theme is pastels. Which was super easy because I've been wearing them all spring like no other colors exist in my closet.

Blue Stitch Bags

Not too long ago Heather, the owner and creator of The Blue Stitch contacted me and asked if I would be interested in collaborating on a custom designed handbag - to which of course I said yes!

Heather asked me about what size, color, pattern and type of strap I liked in a bag - and this cute little green graphic bag with a wooden handle she created is going to be so perfect for spring.

I have a huge admiration to anyone who is pursuing a creative dream and turning it into a business. Heather's bags are so well crafted - fully lined with pockets and a magnetic snap closure, and quite roomy.

The Blue Stitch website is still in the process of being created, but if you'd like to get started on having a bag designed just for you, you can visit The Blue Stitch facebook page, or email heather@thebluestitch.com.

Another Valentines Day

This is the third Valentines Day post seen here at Chic on the Cheap, and the third post in which I have nothing more interesting to share than an outfit worn to work.

No fancy dress for going out to dinner, no sequined clutch nor super high heels. No dinner date to look forward to, no gifts in small velvet boxes to be received.

But maybe 2012 will be my year. Maybe next Valentines Day I'll have something to blog about.
Here is hoping.
