Watching Street Lights Glow

Taking these photos was almost like a meditation. Just me and the camera, the setting sun, the cherry blossoms. A few people would pass by, but they would either distance themselves from me, or I them. I took my time, framing my shots, changing angles, doing my best to capture the glowing light and the magic of pink flowers.

This is an old, familiar spot. Some years I come nearly every day for photos while the trees are in bloom, and others, like this one, just once. One year stands out in my mind for a few reasons; I loved my outfit, the photos were taken in the evening after the street lamps came on, and the trees were blooming before my birthday. This is the first time since 2012 these trees were in full bloom before April 12th, so I felt compelled to come take these photos as the sun was setting.

Thinking back to 2012, that was a year I took some significant steps forward in my life, small, but positive changes. Clearly 2020 is going to be a year of changes, and I hope in the not too distant future I'll be able to look back and see lots of positive ones amidst the tumultuous ones.

  1. Such a beautiful spot for photos and I love your cosy cardi! We don't have these trees in Brisbane, although we have the jacarandas in our spring. I was so happy to see lots of cherry blossoms when we visited Europe! :) couldn't resist taking tons of photos, they are so pretty! :)

Hope you are having a great week :)

  2. I have been eyeing this cowl neck camisole on Mango and I think you officially have me convinced that I need to add it to my wardrobe. I love the warm, rusty shade and the way the cowl falls (which is, admittedly, what I was slightly worried about) really is perfect. We have truly been out to take photos in quite some time, but life is starting to resume here next week and I think, despite my reservations, that it might be time to start to consider what the new normal will look like. I hope, like you, that ultimately, I can look back on 2020 as a year of positive change - but I suppose only time will tell :)

  3. I hope I'll be able to look back on this at the end of the year and see it as a time of positive change (so far it's a mixed bag, to be sure). I wish there were such gorgeous trees and blossoms close to me, I really miss that element of that area - such a beautiful thing to see on a stroll.

  4. Flowering trees are always so pretty. Currently waiting for the one in front of our house to fully bloom...hopefully the rain today doesn't kill it, because some flowers are already popping up.
Loooove that cardigan, looks super cozy!
And yes, I hope that this year marks a big change for everyone!

  5. Although 2020 is a dumpsterfire so far, I have hope it's going to better! I think your beautiful cherry blossom trees are a sign of that. You have such beautiful locations around you and that's such a wonderful thing for times like this.

P.S. isn't it crazy to be able to link back to many years ago online?!

  6. Oh it's that time again... the blossoming trees.
How fabulous that you had the time to do some introspection while shooting.
I have to think that something good will come out of all of this.. just can't imagine what.
