Hibernating Until Spring

Each week I start off with the optimism that I'm going to dedicate time to the blog; I'll edit photos, I'll write thoughtful posts, and I will finally catch up with all my favorite blogs I'm so behind on. Then it's Friday and the days seem to have simply evaporated. Seemingly simple tasks like responding to an email or scheduling an oil change consume large swaths of time, and are only rewarded with the response that requires the next reply or the news that my car has an oil leak, a coolant leak, a mouse nest, and when can I bring it back to address these things?

So often I find myself stuck in the mental clutter, convinced I can't do anything else until it's been cleared, but the problem with clutter is that it takes hours to address and mere seconds to accumulate. By telling myself I can't focus on anything else until the clutter is gone is a way of making sure I stay suck, when the reality is, sometimes the mess needs to be neatly stacked into a pile which can be dealt with later to make a little room for the things that will enrich my life now.

  1. Loving that necklace!!! And hoping for warmer weather to return so I can show my bare ankles again, ha ha
And yeaaaa, I hate when things pile up! I find if I make a list and then just start checking things off the satisfaction of the checks makes me more likely to finish everything, haha.

  2. Gosh, I can so relate to this! I have about a dozen or so blogs that I keep tabs on these days but when I'm pressed for time or when I'm in one of my down moods I'm awful at catching up with them. Luckily they are still there when I'm ready to read!

Love these pants! I keep seeing similar styles on social media and I'm definitely going to give them a try the next time I go shopping. I have no idea how they'll look on my 5'2 frame. I'm so used to skinny or straight leg! Time for a change lol

  3. I love the cardigan worn as a top and I really like the jeans on you too! :)

I find it's easy for the little things to accumulate - I really need to get better at keeping on top of things! I set myself a 50 email limit for my blog inbox but my personal email inbox is a lot larger, haha! I find time and energy for emails is so low, at the end of the day I just want to zone out a bit after spending all day with the kids

    Hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

  4. You are so, so right. I tend to get really stressed out when I have a whole series of small tasks, etc that need doing in a way that's not healthy and not at all productive. I love the idea of making them into a mental pile and just working my way through it in a way that doesn't diminish my joy in the moment.

  5. I find that winter makes me feel overwhelmed more easily than other times of year. It probably has to do with limited daylight and feeling like it's almost bedtime right after work, so all of those little to-dos keep snowballing.

You look great, though, and you're making me yearn for spring!

  6. I totally feel you. Life gets messy so easily and our list of to-dos only increases! Just go and do what makes you happy. I love the pants!

  7. Years ago, a friend of mine who worked for their parents told me about trying to manage their highly distractable mother in the workplace. "I keep reminding her," they said, "that it doesn't matter how many hours she puts in, there will always be work tomorrow. She can never actually finish everything. That's how it works." We were really young back then but that principle always seemed very wise to me and it's something I remind myself when I start to get bogged down in trying to "finish" my to-do list. There will always be something to add. Finishing is, more or less, a myth. It brings me a bit of peace. Although no as much as bare ankles and no coat in February would bring me!

  8. Looking lovely out there dear! Loving your pants. Also, I like how you accessorized the look with the scarf and necklace. Really chic touch.
