Of course when I unpacked I had to grimace at all the unworn clothes I trekked 2,500 miles just to bring home and hang right back up again. I know I packed optimistically, but even if it had been warm and sunny the whole time, I might not have needed three pairs of black sandals. I never wore the red maxi dress I thought I might style for a Valentine's shoot, nor did I wear any of the four pairs of dress pants I brought. Instead I lived in jeans, my Créme de la Créme sweatshirt, (which never made it into outfit photos, but was by and large my MVP of the trip), my field jacket, and my silver mules (which also didn't get photographed very much).
That naturally brings me to discuss the tripod I bought specifically so I could take outfit photos on my own. Cost per use: $20.
At least now my sister has a tripod?

This is something that has been on my mind a fair bit in the days since we got back from Paris. I actually wore everything I packed for our trip, aside from my camel blazer - it was just a touch too cold, so my camel coat had to do double duty. I am a great outfit planner, and I excel at executing the outfits I plan. But on the days that I reach for an outfit without thinking, I invariably come back to the same pieces over and over again, which means a lot of my wardrobe is going unworn unless I am specifically planning for it - and I mostly only plan outfits when I'm traveling and for special occasions. I'm not sure what this all means yet, but suffice it to say you're not alone in wondering why you buy the clothes you buy only to mostly not wear them...

Such a cute look! And yea, I think we all overestimate what we need to pack. But I always think "what if I need that?!" and add an extra dress or two I won't wear, haha!

Love this whole look girl! Especially those shoes! They looks so comfy and cute!
ReplyDeleteI do laundry and unpack right away too! I hate when my suitcase is not put away when I am home. I'm really loving your shoes! They are so cute and they look comfortable too!

I tend to do the same thing when I travel, and especially for an extended period. And I kick myself for it every time but, at the same time, it feels weirdly comforted to have all those clothes and all those options with me. Sort of like a safety net.

I love this adorable hat and pretty spring look. You look great!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute floral top and I like the long cardigan with it :)
ReplyDeleteI always overpack on trips - I try to be good, but I can never resist something 'just in case'. I don't know what the weather or my mood or the activities will be far in advance, I consider it an achievement if I have a week of outfits planned! So I give myself a little grace. Although I am trying to be better at packing less, we don't travel much for me to practice, haha!
Hoping your week is going well so far :)

I tend to overpack on trips as well, unless we are traveling overseas. Then I want to leave lots of room for souvenirs! I love your floral blouse! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way and can't stand the "mess" after I get back from traveling!

I am a chronic over packer also and have to unpack and start my laundry right when I get home. Hopefully next trip, I can be more thoughtful of what I pack so I don't have so much stuff to deal with. Love that hat and floral blouse on you!

You’re like me and have to unpack right away. I don’t enjoy it, but I prefer it over a suitcase sitting around for ages haha! It is interesting how we sometimes spend aimlessly, isn’t it? We gotta start thinking through our purchases before making them!
ReplyDeleteWell this outfit has me ready for spring! Love that floral
ReplyDeleteUgh, I just got back from Florida and I packed as if I was moving there. I wore 25% of what I packed. Such a pretty look! I love your blouse.

This is such a perfect early spring look! Warm, yet layered for those crazy temperature springs, and I love that you were able to "winterfy" spring pieces like a basket bag, by carrying it in a darker color. Genius!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute look on you dear! You're so ready for spring, love it!

You're looking very put together here, very easy going but cool.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I unpack the moment i arrive and load the washing machine.
I'll give you a tip. When I went to Italy last year I swore I would not be seen in jeans, so I did not pack them. Period. I packed dresses, shorts and trousers and wore every single one of them. Yes, i did miss the jeans but i proved to myself I could do without them!
