May Budget

As I stood in the line for returns at Macy's for the fourth time this month, I had a thought: I need to stop shopping online.

The ease and accessibility of online shopping is wonderful and terrible. I can pretty much have anything on it's way to my doorstep in under four clicks, while if I were shopping in a store I'd be inspecting things for fit and quality and deliberating, sometimes for quite a while. With online shopping, it's buy now, decide later. Not to mention my continual use of online shopping as an emotional crutch to hobble through my life.

It needs to stop. No more shopping online. I'm not sure if I can do it, but I need to try, and I suspect I'll be better for it. Plus if stores really do have blacklists for customers who return too much stuff I'm probably going to end up on all of them.

  1. I'm going to come steal those linen pants ;) And I've had those Madewell mules in my wishlist for a while but have behaved so far, haha.
Shopping online is definitely a double edged sword. It's sometimes a bit too easy. And I'm the same way in store...always taking forever to decide if I want something.

  4. The slides, the earrings, the gingham top !
Well, in my case due to the terrible mailing system here, on line shopping happens only when I really cannot find the item locally. The burden I have to go through you would not believe ! Anything I buy on line arrives to a PO box in Miami and then its shipped to where I live. This means at least two weeks, I pay double shipping (once to Miami and then to Panama). It also means that I cannot return it. SO I have to be reaaaally sure !

  5. The gingham top is so cute!
Online shopping is so easy. I prefer going into stores but I can often get a better deal online and if it's a department store, online has a better selection than my local store.

  6. I have to admit, I never really enjoyed shopping in stores - especially the act of trying things on - so online shopping has been a Godsend for me. But that only really works if you absolutely know your size everywhere and are comfortable with taking some risks. My shopping habits are generally under control so I don't feel too guilty (most of the time) and it's rare that I need to return what I buy. I do think you got some lovely pieces this month, particularly those mules!

  7. Love all your picks, especially that steal of a gingham top! So cute!

Love the ease of shopping online and the fact that my merchandise almost always arrives in pristine condition, having never been tried on or picked apart. That's the best part :)

  8. You are so right about online shopping. It's hard to stop that, but I love the larger selection online too. You just can't win! I love that beautiful OTS top from Banana Republic. Can't wait to see these pieces on you!

  9. Oh I love that navy off the shoulder top! :)

I am so bad for buying things online and wondering if they are really so bad that I need to go to the hassle of returning them. if I was in store trying them on I'd just walk away, but online shopping definitely has me keeping things that aren't 100% perfect for me. Good luck with your no online shopping challenge! I'm on my last month of 6 months without shopping so I know you can break the habit. It's just not always easy!

Hope you are having a great week! :)

  13. I'm so indecisive that when I shop online, I'll keep things in my cart for so long that they eventually sell out. That's both a good and a bad thing I guess. I do love your purchases this month--that white pleated skirt is gorgeous, and I love those mules!

  18. That is so true about online shopping and I love that you were so candid about it. It is really important to think hard before we click buy, but online shopping really feeds off of our impulse buying tendencies.
