Chilly spring

Lately we've switched from summer back to spring - chilly, rainy, and grey. Which makes me reach for darker colors and add cozy layers, like this black wool cardigan I recently thrifted for $6.

In a rare occurrence, I went to the thrift store with the objective of finding a long, black, open cardigan and actually had my choice of three. I could have taken all of them home for less than I would pay for one new cardigan, but instead I was disciplined and ultimately went with just this one.

  1. I feel like I've been on a mission for a black cardigan all year - my favourite one, which is almost ten years old, finally has a hole and the sad replacement I bought for it at H&M shrank the first time I washed it. But nothing I find seems to be quite what I'm looking for. Most recently, I found what I thought was the perfect specimen, only to have it turn out to be made of viscose and rayon. To say it itched is an understatement and on top of that, despite the poor fabrics, it was $79! So the search continues. I hadn't considered a thrift store as an option - you know that I rarely do, of course - but considering that you were able to find three black cardigans in a single store, I may just have to do that. The one you came home with really is perfect, and I love it layered over your leopard tee.

  5. Very classic… and a black wool cardigan for 6 bucks sounds like my kind of deal.

  6. Very cute look! I never find what I'm looking for, so I think it's great that you were able to choose from three options. It's been relatively mild here in california too. I honestly can't tell the difference between Spring and Summer yet.

  7. What luck! I try never to go thrifting with a specific piece in mind because I will almost always be disappointed. Not only did you find what you were looking for, but it's adorable on you and for an excellent price!

  9. Love the cardigan--looks like such a staple item. I love it when I find the exact thing I'm looking for--it seems like when I have something specific on my list then it's the hardest thing to find!

  15. I can't believe you found three - you had great luck on that thrifting trip. And I really like the one that you selected. This also reminds me that I need a new open black cardigan as my current one is starting to get pretty ratty.

  19. I like your minimalist triangle necklace. This outfit (including the hair) reminds me of Fran Drescher from The Nanny a bit. I love that woman and her style! :) Haha.
