Fallen through the gap

Today I found out that the Gap is closing 200 stores... which probably wouldn't bother me too much, except for the fact that MY Gap is one of them. I read a few articles addressing the subject, but none of theme state a clear reason as to why they are closing the stores. They want to modernize and gain new customers and focus on new category development? Is that why the Mall Gap (which I dislike, by the way) has replaced the section that used to be for sale merchandise with Gap Body stuff? I can not believe that will be the only Gap in my area - especially since I only go the Mall very few times a year.

But my Gap, that has been five minutes down the road from my house for my whole life, a place I frequent several times a month if not several times a week - gone? I could cry. In fact, I did while at work when I found out; in a completely embarrassing fashion.

Gap, I feel betrayed. Have been nothing but a loving and loyal customer my whole life? Have I not done my best to style your clothes in a way that disassociates you with "Mummies and Yuppies" as the article states? Are you not where I run when I need last minute birthday and Christmas gifts? Have you not played a hand in creating some of my favorite outfits, time after time?

Well Gap, have fun finding your new customer base while you basically snub your entire existing one.

  3. Oh, NO! I would cry if they closed my neighborhood Gap too!

Love your shoes though, I have a very similar looking pair that I can't wait to wear with warmer weather.

  4. I have one Gap near me and if it's closes I'm screwed. I'm not a big Gap shopper, but I do love their basics. SN: Your outfit is so cute and I love the shoes as usual! :)

  7. Oh my goodness... I worked at Gap for five years, and so much of my wardrobe is from there! As a former employee, I can tell you that they got themselves into this mess... poor marketing, way too expensive advertising, obsession with Gapcard, and lack of employee loyalty. (I totally love them through it all, I don't mean to bash so much!) I am so thankful they aren't closing for good!

You look amazing-- I wish I had gotten those shoes!

  11. I read that the other day
I too have a GAP basically across the street from my right down the shopping center from the market I go to.
I pop in there all the time
They didn't know if they were closing as of yet, but I will be devastated if they do.

  12. That stinks that your GAP is closing! Unfortunately the online sales are never as good as the sales in the store. I will be sad if my GAP gets the boot. By the way - I have the same dress and you have given me an idea on a new way to style it. Thanks!

  18. SO cute! I love the shoes and the belt around the sweater - I'm not creative enough to be thinking of things like that!

That's a bummer about Gap. I hope they're not closing the one I go to. Who knows what they're up to. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

  19. I love this post; especially the closing paragraph! You tell them were to stick it! Haha

I'm sorry to hear your Gap is closing though. They should just close the ones here in Europe because they're no good.

You look great by the way. The tights go great with that dress and the shoes are way cute.

  29. Arrgg!! Just when I start feeling Gap stuff. That's about right. I can only hope "mine" won't close.
Love the print with the different shades of blue. Very pretty. Also the detailing on those shoes is amazing.

  30. Wow! Where have I been? I didn't know of this announcement. 200 stores is a lot - like 4 per state... and I highly doubt Wyoming has 4 Gaps. Well, maybe they do.
My town only has a Gap Outlet. I'm off to check to see if it will be impacted.

  32. OH NO! I'm sorry to hear that your gap is closing, oh no, oh no. D: That is not a good thing to happen, nonono not at all. I'm so sorry to hear that! ;__; <3

On a bright note, at least you look amazing. I love how you matched the gray to the pattern in your dress and added that wonderful royal blue cardigan. Feel better soon, eat tons of ice cream. :( <3333 harts

  33. Ugh, that sucks! I hope they don't close my Gap too! I'm with you, it's one of my favorite stores.
And those shoes, man those are gorgeous!!

  34. I just want to say I love your entire outfit from head to toe. You look fab and I'm staring at the shoes.

Now what in the hell is Gap doing now?? I swear if they just continued to focus on getting the merchandise correct the rest would follow. And if they have to close some stores how about some of those God awful huge mall locations that sit empty?? If they close the one in my neighborhood I'll bawl right along with you. Just like I did when Martin+Osa was shanked out from under me by that damn American Eagle.

    WTH!!

  35. oh no! I wonder if my Gap is closing! Granted I don't shop there more than a few times a year, but I love the Gap items that I own. I'm so sorry for your loss. I would hate to lose my Loft. And your dress is adorable.

  36. Oh that's too bad. I'd say it's Gap's loss but this dress and cardi(from Gap) are so good it wiil be a sad thing to have no Gap store close by

  37. Love the outfit.

I used to shop at the Gap all the time but then for a few years I was finding their clothes cheap and poorly designed. This past year though, I was starting to love them again. They seemed to be getting back to the basics.

  38. So sad! I hope my favorite Gap sticks around.

  39. that seriously sucks! I like the GAP. I have things I've gotten there forever ago that are staples in my closet (like my denim jacket, a couple sweaters, and my favorite tiny little nude colored shorts!!!). I feel for you.

On a happier note, you look fantastic. love the pattern on that dress, and the bright blue sweater rocks. you really put this together nicely!

  40. That's too bad!! As someone who works in a buying office for a department store, they probably closed your store because it wasn't profitable. (Maybe you were getting your chic too cheap for them!) A lot of times, leases end, rent's raise and a location is no longer a good investment. Try not to take it so personally, and check out thier website! They have lots of email deals!

Very cute outfit - love the dress on you!

  43. I had no idea Gap was closing stores... kind of crazy! I wonder if they're closing the one near me, they've been scaling it back and they never stock any of the merchandise I go in look for.
I love this outfit though, the shoes are completely amazing and the shades of blue look wonderful together.
