Upstager

Today is my little sister's birthday. Because she's eight years younger than I, when she gets older, it makes me feel ancient.
She accused me of trying to upstage her outfit-wise, but we all know that this is how I dress everyday.

The weather was almost something resembling warm, about 46°. I wasn't quite ready to forgo tights however, so I chose a nude fishnet, that I now maybe regret. And I broke out the Seychelles, because I was very anxious to, and most of the snow is gone now.
Upstager
I hadn't worn this sequined top since Christmas, so clearly I need to work harder at incorporating sequins into daily wear. (But then what will I wear on special occasions? I don't know.)

I do love the color of these! Can't wait for summer and no tights.

Happy Birthday Anna Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake
We had the best chocolate cake ever (you can find the recipe here), and yes, doesn't the Christmas tree make such nice bokeh? Why would anyone ever want to take that down...

...and if anyone is interested...
I've listed a couple pairs of shoes on ebay, because I'd like to have room for my new shoes...click the photos to check out the listings. They are both size eight.

Leftovers

When I did the capsule wardrobe last week I styled and photographed a sixth outfit that I didn't end up wearing (sometimes I like to have options). I decided to wear it today before it got too old (it feels almost insincere to post a photo that is nearly two weeks old).

Tonight I went to a makeover party and then out for a drink. Was home by midnight, sat on the couch to watch What Not To Wear, feel asleep 20 minutes in, and am now writing this post at 4 am.

Sand and ice

Today is my last beach vacation inspired outfit, and I decided to steal a color pallet from the sand itself. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm thinking "Really? Four shades of brown? That is the best you've got?"

Sand & Ice
And boots?? Boots are not beachy at all. Boots were poor shoe choice. I think the new orange Seyschelles would have been a better choice. And a gold cardigan instead of the brown.
Oh well. Next time, I guess.
Sand & Ice
At least I'm pleased with my necklace choices; I love the way the white one is built like a net of beads and has a nice drape. It does feel like summer.

Deep blue sea

This is my second outfit inspired by my desire for a tropical getaway; this time I let the ocean serve as my influence. Dark blues layered on top of one another, ever changing, ever moving.

The striped skirt was an easy choice, and I got to play up the nautical elements with the woven belt and anchor necklace.

Now, this is very important; I found this pair of shoes in TJMaxx the other day and fell madly in love but they did not have them in a size 8! With the determination of one of Cinderella's ugly step-sisters I tried to force my foot into the size 7, but much like Drizella and Anastasia, I was not able too. If anyone knows where to find these in a size 8, please let me know!
The brand is G by Guess and the name of the shoe is Farleigh-T

Love like a sunset

What I want most right now is to be watching a tropical sunset, but since it isn't getting any warmer in New England, my outfit today is inspired by the colors which fill the sky as the sun goes down.

Brilliant oranges deepening into purples and finally fading to darkness.

This is the newest addition to my growing collection of knit pencil skirts. I got it from Talbots at 75% off. I love the idea of bright pencil skirt and I'm sure you will be seeing this quite a lot in the future.

Normally I only wear my shell jewelry in the summer, but since this is a summer inspired look, the shell made it in.

Denim Days

The weathermen were such liars this weekend, they said it was going to warm up. It did not at all. And it snowed again this morning. I'm so tired of the cold, and in some form of rebellion, I wore the same jeans all weekend.

Everything just seems so much harder to do when it's cold. Outfit photos included. I want to go on a vacation to somewhere warm and tropical. Actually, first I want to buy that $700 wide angle lens for my camera I've been pining for, then I want to go on vacation. I want to see bright orange sunsets fade into purple, framed by the silhouettes of palm trees. I want to dig my bare toes into the white sand of a warm beach. I want to be on a boat in the sea, where the cool breezes are welcome feeling, whipping the heat of the sun off my forehead.

Snow is very pretty and snow is very nice, but looking at it is just making me sad. I've had my fill. On the plus side, only THREE more weeks until daylight savings time, which means I only have to take outfit photos on the weekends two more times.

In sort of a mini theme week, three of my outfits are inspired by my dreams of a tropical getaway, the sun, the surf and the sand. So look for those Tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Congratulations to Anne from The cohabitating closet, the winner of the Shabby Apple Giveaway!

This is number five

Today wraps up the capsule wardrobe challenge with the blue dress again. I should have worn the black dress, but as I'm getting over this cold, I'm all about comfy. I do think it's starting to go away, as I drank coffee today. Whenever I get sick, I never want coffee, which is strange because normally I drink several cups a day.
fur
I think I made a mistake of opting for this furry vest instead of another pair of shoes. I die going through the week with only two pairs of shoes. In an ideal week, I'd wear seven different pairs.

This weekend I want to go see "I Am Number Four", because I saw that preview with the Adele song and Quinn Fabray, and superpowers, and thought it was just my kind of movie.

Today I hemmed my new pencil skirt, and when I tried it on again, I had to make an outfit. Sadly I won't be wearing this particular look until it warms up, so here is a little preview. I really love it.

V-Day Redux

Do you ever buy something with the thought that it would be great to wear on [insert holiday here]?

Buying things for specify holidays is silly. And it makes you no better than the women who wear those novelty printed mock turtleneck shirts on every holiday there is.
V-Day Redux
Still, when I bought this scarf I thought, "this would be good to wear on Valentine's Day." Then I didn't wear it on Monday, so I'm wearing it today, just to make a point. It may be pink, covered in hearts and keys, but I can wear it all year long.

Options are limited

I always like to play chicken with my camera's battery. It refuses to tell me it's battery life in something useful like a percentage, so when it turns red and starts blinking, I like to see just how long I can use it before it decides to call it quits.
This time I got though all my weeks outfits, until this last one, when the battery went kaput after five frames. But two of them were in focus and they weren't horrible, so I called it a day.

Grey Leopard

I mentioned breifly yesterday that this week was The Small Fabric of My Life's five day Wardrobe Capsule Challenge. Which is a nice low-key challenge, with ten pieces and five accessories. It isn't a huge challenge to create five outfits from ten pieces; you could even go so far as to choose five different dresses and five different pairs of shoes; and this time I chose three dresses because I was feeling lazy and sick.
Grey leopard
I was much more ambitious during the summer capsule challenge, where I remixed five pieces for seven days.
