A little exposure

On Sunday (I'll never get caught up with my postings) I had another bridal shower to attend. I was really, really over dressed for this one. Some of the guests were wearing yoga pants... But that has never bothered me before; I love having an occasion to get dressed up for, and this lace top was in need of some love.

My sister thinks wearing the lace top with my bra being visible is an atrocity. I'm sort of on the fence with the exposed bra issue. Sometimes I truly hate it, but for some reason I don't mind it with this top - maybe because the lace is so thick, and the spacing is tight.

When I was in High School I thought wearing a leopard print bra with a spaghetti strap top looked good, and now I consider that a huge fashion misstep. So I'll let you know how I feel about this pairing in another eight years.

  3. I am like you - I love getting dressed up. Isn't it one of the joys of life? I leave yoga clothes for yoga!

The lace top is absolutely divine on you. If you hadn't mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have noticed your bra.

  4. Why were people wearing yoga pants to a bridal shower lol? I think your outfit is absolutely appropriate :) The lace top is adorable!

  6. Your hair looks amazing! I don't have a problem with a visible bra, as long as it looks intentional.

  7. You look beautiful - I dig the exposed bra with this. And yay for dressing up!

  9. I think the same color bra showing underneath a shirt can work if the shirt is not too sheer. In this case I think it worked great!

  10. I love any reason to get dressed up too! This lace top is a great thrift find. Love it with the fuller skirt :-)

  17. I love this lace top! I can't even tell you're only wearing a bra under there. Typically I'd wear a cami underneath; I want to make SURE no one can see anything!!!

  18. I love the lace top. I don't think the exposed bra is an atrocity at all. And you're right about the thickness of the shirt and it being appropriate. Oh, how I love it over that skirt!!

  19. You looked beautiful Lyddie. Another blogger paired lace and navy. I think it's an awesome combination!!! Super love your necklace. I wish people would stop dressing down on special occasions. Hardly anyone dresses up anymore. You look very elegant! Great job! :D

  20. Can't even tell about the bra. Love it. The lace looks extremely good against navy.

The last bridal shower I went to most people wore jeans and t-shirts. Yoga pants? Umm...

  21. I can't believe someone would wear yoga pants to a bridal shower?!?!?! I love, love this look and I'm a big supporter of the somewhat visible bra. I think when paired under a sheer or lace top it is a nice combination and adds a bit of edge to the look. Apparently though, as in your case, I'm the only one in my circle that feels that way....lol

  24. I really like the exposed bra look when done right (and you did it right!). I haven't tried it yet because I feel like it would look trashy on me :)

I too am always overdressed! Better than under-dressed, though, right?

  25. Absolutely gorgeous! I love this lacy top. I actually dig the bra through the sheer/lacy tops. I think it's fun (depending on the occasion and the way it is showing of course). I love your pretty skirt as well!

  27. i think it looks just lovely! you really can't see your bra (in the pictures, at least) and the weave on the lace is so tight that it doesn't seem to show off too much. i kind of like exposed bra looks (i.e. sheer blouses w/ bras) on other people, but i am personally way too modest to even attempt to pull it off!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I usually don't like tops that show the bra but there is a classy and elegant way to do it and you certainly have. You look beautiful and perfect for a party!

    ReplyDelete
  29. This is great! Somehow the bra thing doesn't register - probably because the top has such a high neckline. And...yoga pants??!! For shame.

  31. I think the whole exposed bra thing can be done stylishly, and I think it's perfectly done here. I used to be super trashy in high school (gah, it was a phase) but now, that's over, thank goodness!

I also don't understand how people don't dress up for special occasions? I mean, yoga pants? what's the deal, people?

  35. I'm always the most overdressed of my friends too; I really don't mind either! I personally dislike it when my bra shows, even through something sheer (I try and get nude bras so they don't show).

  41. Oooh! Let's talk about the showing bra issue, shall we? I have opinions. I like it in most cases. In fact, I'm getting my pirate on this weekend, and I thrifted this white blouse, and I'm really hoping it's see-thru enough so I can wear a black bra and it kind of shows through.

I mean, it's not like I'm going to work. If I was, then it would be a different story.

And I think your outfit is classy as hell. Better to be wearing a bra than not be wearing a bra, right? Right.

And I like your pops of brightness, too.

  56. I wouldn't change a thing about this look! I think maybe if you paired the lace top with a short, tight skirt maybe the exposed bra would be too much. But the rest of this look is very demure, and the exposure is very subtle. I think it works!

  57. You can hardly see your bra so in 8 years you'll still love it. The hot pink clutch was a fabulous addition to this look. Lovely outfit!!
