The Teddy Coat

This coat isn't mine. Well, it isn't supposed to be mine at least. When my sister was home for Thanksgiving we popped into J.Crew and she tried it on and loved it. Since the Black Friday sale was so good (just $70 before tax) I decided to get it for her. Then my mom mentioned that since moving to California, all of my sister's winter coats remained in Connecticut. However the coat was final sale, so I reasoned I'd just keep it.

When my sister came home for Christmas she saw the coat in my room and was highly offended I'd bought a coat she'd wanted. I explained the situation, and that I'd already purchased her a different gift for Christmas - but if she'd prefer to have the coat, I'd return her other gift.

Not willing to commit and potentially give up her other gift, she said she might want the coat as a birthday gift, but I'm not sure where we landed on that. Needless to say, it did not come to California, so I felt while the coats ownership was still in limbo, I might as well do a blog post with it!

  1. This post made me laugh. While my brother and I do dress surprisingly similarly, and have occasionally shared a few basic garments, we have never found ourselves in a situation where a coat was loved by one of us, purchased by the other and then left, somewhat unclaimed, as a jointly owned garment. Whoever ends up owning this coat in the end, it truly is a beauty, and how lucky you were able to take photos with it - sometimes, I am sad to say, that is all it takes to satisfy me with a garment. And that's generally when I know I should probably return something... :P

  4. I love this tale of confused coat ownership - and I totally get why it would be a contentious issue, as it's such a fun and very cozy looking piece.

  5. Haha, I almost bought a different Teddy coat from J Crew and then didn't get anything at all. Still have gift card money to spend.
Hopefully the coat figures out it's permanent home soon!

  6. I can't help but laugh a little bc you and your sister conversation abut the coat would be so similar to my sister and I. And I'm with you, if it's limbo and it is more attainable for you, I say wear it! That teddy coat is gorgeous!

  7. You should definitely keep the coat, maybe your sister might forget it ever existed :) I never shared my clothes with my sister (as she is a size 2 and I'm more in the 10 area) but it must be so great :)

  9. That is quite the story! I would have tried it on for a blog post too! It's a gorgeous coat so whether you get to keep it or your sister gets it as a bday gift, I think it is a win-win!

  10. I would wear it for a blog post too! Especially if it's not being used right now. It would come in hand with the colder weather coming this weekend!

  14. That is too funny. Hey, if it's just going to be sitting around not being worn, you may as well give it some attention, right? It does look really cozy and warm. You're just keeping it company until she needs it ;)
