Happy 4th!

I tried my best to work with the wind coming off the water in these photos. My hair was so snarled by the time I was through! I haven't been to this spot in ages - it's at the beach, but without the usual signifiers of sand and water, how would you know? Trying to get back into the groove of taking photos with the tripod has been hard. When I started this blog it was the only way I took my photos, so you'd think it would be like riding a bike, but not so much. I feel a lot more self conscious as of late, I feel like my remote is conspiring against me, as I stand there with arm outstretched trying to get the shutter to fire. Some days I'll rope my mom into playing photographer, some days I just don't take photos at all.

Today is Independence Day, and I know in my heart I will not find happiness until I find my own independence.

  1. As much as wrestling with that tripod must be really annoying, your photos continue to look absolutely perfect. I am terrible at doing my own photos - I could never get my timer or remote to work properly.

  2. I can never tell which photos are taken by an actual person vs a tripod. These turned out really, really good. The dress was the perfect choice for the occasion and I am a big fan of the bee ring : )
I'm gonna get philosophical here, independence is not something you find, is something you do: one step at a time.

    1. For some reason there's no comment box for me, but I'm able to use the reply. It's interesting, because I just commented on a recent post of yours so I'm not sure why this happened. But the only reason I thought to do it this way instead of giving up and not commenting, was because a reader said that happened to her a couple of times....????
Your photos are always so fabulous. Along with this dress...totally perfect.
      Sending you hugs...

  6. That's such a cute dress, and a lovely spot for photos! IF you hadn't said these were tripod photos I wouldn't have known - you're much more skilled at taking your own photos than I am! You even hide the remote so well! :)

Thank you for the link up!

Hope that you're having a great week so far! :)

  7. I am impressed with anyone who can take photos with a tripod! I tried it just with my iphone and it was just...impossible! LOL. These pics turned out great and your outfit is so summery-perfect. Love your jeweled sandals!

  8. I always admire anyone who makes the effort to take photos with a tripod, never mind doing it successfully. I genuinely can't imagine it - not because I would be self-conscious but because I would immediately get frustrated if the results didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted them to. I imagine there are a lot of invisible hurdles to climb over, like the wind you mentionned, but from where I'm sitting, these photos turned out beautifully. And this dress could not be more perfect for the Fourth of July - it's festive without being too on the nose.

  9. You would never know this was a tripod shoot- I think you have more muscle memory than you think! But I totally get feeling "off" during a shoot- like nothing is working and you aren't on your game. Been there too many times! But this turned out beautifully- that dress is such a summer jam!

  10. The wind can be SUCH a challenge! You totally pulled off this look, even in all the wind! I love that bag, so chic!

  11. Your pictures look beautiful to me! But I can relate. I take some of my photos and it is a PITA! It takes twice as much the time and effort and by the time you get the hang of it, you are tired and grumpy from the 100 photos that didn't work out. Story of a blogger right?! Your dress is cute and I like the blue and white color combo. Always reminds me of the beach probably because it's calm and serene together. Happy Friday!
